T-minus 10 years until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games!
Exciting fact incoming! The countdown is on for something beyond epic and we’re so pumped, we could bust out a cartwheel. We’ll give you a hint: it involves lots of fun, medals, and people in skin-tight attire. And if you haven’t already guessed it, we’re talking about the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. And guys, we are officially at the 10 years to go mark– squeal!!!
In light of this monumental occasion, City of Gold Coast certainly aren’t letting this slip by without some fanfare. So, they are set to launch their activation “Gold Coast Green and Gold Runway” on Saturday 23rd July in celebration. No, this is not a new airport or an Aussie themed catwalk, but an opportunity to try a new sport. The good news doesn’t stop there though because it’s not just cheap and ‘cheer’-ful, it FREE and fabulous! So quick, call your family and friends because these active-ities require urgent discus-sion and yes, we’re a soccer for a pun.
There is something for everyone at various locations around the city, irrespective of your sport preference, age, gender, fitness level and coordination (or lack thereof…). Fancy learning how to play basketball? Tick, they’ve got you covered. Maybe you’d prefer a casual shootaround rather than learning the whole shebang? Consider it done, just don’t forget it’s BYO basketball. There’s also wheelchair basketball hosted by Gold Coast Rollerblaze, an awesome all-inclusive clinic open to everyone whether you’re a wheelchair user or not. Or, perhaps you want to leave it to the pros and watch the mens’ and womens’ GC Rollers and North GC teams in action, again, all for free!
There’s beach volleyball for those who’d also like to take in our pristine sands and sparkling ocean #yesplease. Or, you can watch the AYVC State teams train, and even join a clinic to develop your skills. Skateboarder and surfing wannabes, you’re in luck with a coaching clinic and demonstrations. Gnarly!
Footy heads can catch some NPL greatness with GC United taking on Peninsula Power, or if rugby union is your code of choice, bring the ankle biters along for some non-contact play-based fun. While we’re talking kid-specific stuff, Football Queensland is inviting the youngsters to try their hand or umm, foot, at the sport. Plus, there’s a Mini Olympics designed for preschool children, and both beginner and intermediate Freestyle BMX workshops for kids. They’ll learn small jumps and tricks in a fun and safe environment, and is anyone else totally having a BMX Bandits flashback right about now #80sBaby? Just remember you need to ensure you bring your (or the kids) own a bike, helmet, protective gear, water and hat… then let the experts take care of the rest!
Don’t know how to swim, feel like busting out a few laps, or maybe donning your lycra for a casual gym sesh? No worries, Pimpama Sports Hub is all over it. And finally, maybe you’ve been meaning to give an infamous GC Park Run a crack? Well, here’s your chance with a 5km walk, jog or run at one of our many glorious local parks.
So, there you have it folks. If you love getting active, trying new things, or just never quite got around to learning that certain sport coz, #life, this one’s for you! Or, if your mini-me has been hounding you to try a new sport, and/or you’re just crazy for all-things Olympics coz #OLYMPICS!!!, City of Gold Coast’s Gold Coast Green and Gold Runway is gold medallist status #goals.
