Sunset has to be the best time of the day (some people we know say sunrise, but we wouldn’t know, ahem) — so sunset it is.

Now that spring has sprung, cue the Spotify sunset mix, we’re keen to start enjoying the balmy evenings and appreciate this gorgeous time of day. To get you all inspired, here’s a list of some of the best sunset-chasing adventures on the Gold Coast. Psst — there’s more to do at golden hour than snap the perfect pic (although you must also do that) #everythingiscontent.

Kick back at a rooftop bar
This one’s a no-brainer, but hear us out. Sure, it took the Gold Coast a minute to catch up to our southern pals in the rooftop bar game. Odd, right? Especially considering we’ve got the best weather in the country—no contest. But hey, better late than never! These days, we’re spoiled for choice with rooftop spots all over the Coast. So why not make up for lost time? Pick your favorite perch, grab a drink, and soak in that golden hour glow as the sun sets on another perfect day. We love The Exhibitionist Bar for its ever-evolving and always killer cocktail list or newbie Sandfire for a sophisticated (kids free) sip overlooking the North Burleigh headland.

Overlook the Gold Coast at Mt Tamborine
The Gold Coast hinterland is the perfect spot for a bit of sunset spying. When it comes to breathtaking views, Mt Tamborine offers a vantage point that’s unmatched. Perched high above the Gold Coast, you get a bird’s eye view of the glittering skyline below, framed by lush, green hinterland. As the sun dips towards the horizon, the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery oranges, pinks, and purples, casting a magical glow. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely stroll along the scenic trails or just kicking back with a glass of local wine, Mt Tamborine is where you’ll find a slice of sunset paradise that’s truly worth the climb. Why not make a weekend of it and stay a night or two mixing waterfall fuelled adventures with some sunset action?

Get High (on views)
Take things to new heights—literally. Head to SkyPoint Observation Deck, to soak in 360-degree sunset views from the highest vantage point on the Coast. Alternatively, elevate your evening at Horizon Sky Dining, Queensland’s only revolving restaurant. As you rotate, enjoy stunning panoramic views paired with a delicious buffet and handcrafted drinks. These two spots are your best options for soaking in the full circle breathtaking scenery of a Gold Coast sunset

Take a picnic to Burleigh Point
Ah, the iconic Burleigh Hill. It’s a local love and visitors paradise. Having a picnic on this roll of green is an essential activity and must be enjoyed at sunset. Watch as the sky turns its pink hues, and the rays from the descending sun bounce off the glitzy Surfers Paradise towers in the distance. Sounds like a dream if you ask us. You may even spot a whale in passing (this is a known whale-watching location). BYO charcuterie set up (and wine!) or grab a takeaway pizza or fish & chips from one of the many epic options in Burleigh.

Sip frosty beers and bubbles at a surf club
Surf clubs are lifesavers, aren’t they? They’re conveniently located at your local beach, serve affordable drinks and eats, are thong-appropriate, and always know how to deliver a decent palmy. They almost feel like a hoax. Enjoy our opulent ocean-front views, and our savvy b is chilled and affordable. Score! It’s the most laidback Gold Coast-esque way to enjoy yourself a sunset.

Take a dip anywhere
We are spoilt for choice for this one! Take your sunset dip at any of our flawless beaches, creeks or canals, and you won’t go wrong. But what help would we be if we didn’t share a couple of our favourite (and patrolled) gems? Straight up, Kirra would have to be one of the most picturesque spots to take a dip while watching the sun go down. Currumbin and Nobby Beach would follow very closely behind.

Whether hunting for your next (or first) stunning art piece or keen to unleash some creativity of your own, this Currumbin-located gallery is a HIVE for all art-related activities. Test your skills at Life Drawing or find botanical bliss at a Fresco Painting workshop where flora and fauna are your muse. Kids don’t miss out, with similar style painting classes. Or, choose to admire other people’s creativity at one of their many art exhibitions. We promise you’ll be impressed.

Dust Temple
This beautiful building tucked away in the back of Currumbin and has just celebrated 10 years of Life Drawing sessions! So, for those keen to try their hand at capturing the human form, you know you’re in expert hands here. It’s two and a half hours (6:30-9pm) of untutored drawing with a life model for just $30- all materials and live music provided! Dinner and drinks available through Dust Temple Cafe from 6pm.

The Sweet Fine Artist Studio
If you’re looking to take your fine art skills to the next level while still keeping a wine in hand (it’s called balance), we’ve found your haven. The Sweet Fine Artist Studio is many lovely things, including a space for hire and home to many a creative workshop. They have everything from your playful Paint (or Clay) and Sip to more technical and skill-enhancing workshops, including Life Drawing, Sculpting, Texture Painting and Lino Cut & Printing! It’s the perfect place for a mid-week burst of creativity, or why not plan an event around one of their offerings? Hens party life drawing anyone? Always a good time.

POT Studios
POT Studios is home to all things ceramics, from pottery workshops and courses to a gorgeous curation of ceramic homewares to purchase. The Tugun-based studio was created by Cindy Hamrey, who simply wanted a space to create. Nowadays, you can find a host of workshops to enjoy, including ‘Wheel + Wine’ or ‘Date Night’ classes, or ‘make your own’ just about anything, including a dinner or breakfast set, fruit bowl, vessel, vase and of course, mug! The list goes on! Why not dive right in with a 4-week ‘Intro to Pottery’ or ‘Intro to Wheel’ course!

HOTA
It wouldn’t be a true Home of the Arts without plenty of creative classes to take part in. From crafting your own brushes to even more life drawing, your inner muse will surely be inspired at HOTA. There are classes for both adults and kids (hello, LEGO workshop), and new ones are added all the time, so why not get the whole family involved in something new and different. The Meraki Connection Creative Studio
Get ready to belly-laugh, get your hands dirty and make some memories at The Meraki Connection Creative Studio in Nerang. It’s another studio that seemingly has it all, with Paint and Sip, macramé, pottery, resin and painting workshops, as well as candle and soap making. They even have beeswax wrap workshops! The name ‘Meraki’ literally translates to ‘to do something with soul, creativity, or love’, and that’s precisely what you’ll find here.

Sip & Pearl
How does an afternoon of sipping bubbles while designing and creating unique freshwater pearl jewellery pieces sound? Amazing! Well, Sip and Pearl have done us a solid and bought two of our favourite things together (prosecco and pearls) in a workshop. You’ll be taken through each step of creating your choice of 1 or 2 pieces, like necklaces/chokers, bracelets, anklets, earrings or rings, with all creations professionally clasped by their team at the end! Workshops are held at various Gold Coast locations (usually breweries), including Lost Palms Brewing Co in Miami and Hard Fizz Taproom in Burleigh Waters.

Crockd Studios
Don’t even get us started on how drop-dead gorgeous these studios are….omg you got us started! Based in Kingscliff and Currumbin, Crockd Studios, formerly known as Stone Studios, offers two of the most aesthetic spaces to get your creative juices flowing, which apparently translates into the most aesthetic pottery work. Just take one look at their Insta, and you’ll know what we’re talking about. Get your Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze on (Ghost style) at their ‘Date Night Wheel Class’, or fly solo or with friends at one of their ‘Vase and Vino’ or ‘Wheel and Wine’ workshops. Either way, you’re leaving with an adorable creation- guaranteed!

Artable Studio
Whether you prefer to paint in watercolour, oil or acrylic or favour a pencil in hand, Artable Studio has you covered. From Impressionist Landscapes to Floral Painting in Acrylic, you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy. Classes are held at various locations across the Gold Coast in the loveliest of spaces, from The Borrowed Nursery to Burleigh Brewing. You’ll undoubtedly make a new friend or two amongst all the paint and good vibes. Lessons start from $33.
