The annual Gold Coast event unveils something special.
The annual Gold Coast event unveils something special.
Every year we are surprised and delighted by calibre of art and culture goodies we’re gifted on the Gold Coast. Whether it’s a new event or idea or one that’s been around for awhile, the scene is constantly expanding and evolving. We’re all about it.
Which brings us to the point of this tale. Sand Safari Arts Festival is back again as of Friday 14th February and this year the event will include an immersive art experience aimed at sparking conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
Over the last little while, we’ve seen a few local events highlighting mental health, starting conversations and generally bringing the issue to light through something everyone can get involved in, the arts.
Sand Safari is jumping on board in 2020 using their platform to bring an epic human art installation to life on Surfers Paradise Beach.
One of the festivals events, Sand Talk – The Art of Conversation, will invite to share words of hope and inspiration about mental health and wellbeing in a big white container on the Surfers Paradise foreshore throughout the 17-day event.
The doors will be closed for the first nine days of the festival, with visitors asked to write messages of hope, personal reflections or prayers for a loved one on symbolic ‘helping hands’ on its exterior.
On Sunday 23rd February, Sand Talk will come alive with the official opening of the container and the chance to share messages inside.
There’ll also be mental health and charity groups on-site to host stalls and provide support plus a range of free activities and games.
From then on, Sand Talk – The Art of Conversation will remain an interactive art installation on the Surfers Paradise foreshore for the rest of the festival, allowing visitors to read thousands of messages and add their own thoughts to the collection.
So that’s a delightful idea but that’s not all.
The event will see Australia’s best professional sand sculptors transform the Surfers Paradise foreshore into a fairy tale wonderland. How nice.
Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Cinderella and The Little Mermaid will emerge from the sand in all your childhood dreams come true, as well as many more fairy tale-inspired experiences.
The Australian Sand Sculpting Championships will take place again too with 15 talented sculptors, including three highly acclaimed international sculptors showcasing their skills across three days.
It’s set to be a magical time once again Gold Coasters with a little something special thrown in for good measure. Can’t wait.
