It’s one of the most important days of the year in Australia but this year, ANZAC Day (Saturday April 25th) is going to look a little different.
While we are obviously limited to stay indoors this year, we can still show our gratitude to the men and women who fought and died for our country in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world.
So, while we can’t get up at 3am to head down to our local service, what we can do is have our own private service at home.
From 6am, RSL Queensland will be streaming a short commemorative service, comprising The Ode, The Last Post, a minute’s silence, and Reveille.
If you head to the website here, you can listen to a short audio while standing in your driveway, on the balcony or even just in your lounge room to pay your respects.
They’ve deemed it Light Up The Dawn and suggest lighting a candle to hold while you listen to the service.
It will roll out as follows:
Acknowledgment of Country
The Ode – RSL Queensland President Tony Ferris
The Last Post – Australian Army Band Brisbane
A minute’s silence
Reveille – Australian Army Band Brisbane
The National Anthem – Australian Army Band Brisbane
Head to the website to pledge your place, so RSL Queensland (and our servicemen and women) know how many of us are participating.
Currumbin RSL will also be live streaming a pre-recorded service on their social media channels and they’re also in the process of creating a project by asking Gold Coasters to send in a short video (up to 30 seconds) of yourself, your friends or your family using your phone or camera showing your thanks to our veterans. Send it in to [email protected] and they’ll post in the lead up.
Imagine how magical it will be standing solo in our homes, but still connected to millions of other Australians.
It will be one ANZAC Day to remember forever – and tell the grandkids about right?
Pledge your attendance here.
