Because we miss the pub.

D'Arcy Arms

There are many things we would do for a delicious, delicious parmi right now. Washed down with an ice cold schooner in a noisy pub with all of our mates. Oh the things.

Unfortunately, we cannot right now but one day we will again (dramatic) and until then, here’s the next best thing. Pub grub, but takeaway.

Here’s a list of pub grub you can grab to takeaway on the Gold Coast right now.

Fortitude Brewing
Up Mt Tamborine way, Fortitude Brewing has your takeaway pub grub needs covered with an array of yummy dishes to sample. There’s Crumbed Camembert to start (obviously), plus Crumbed Fish and Calamari, Chips and lots of gourmet pizzas to choose from too. You can also get their signature brews to go, so may as well get involved in that good time. Call 5545 4273 to order.

What more could you want. Call 0432 638 077 to pre-order or drive on thru.

Mermaid Beach Surf Club
They’ve got all the takeaway goods you could possibly want at Mermaid Beach Surf Club right now. From beloved Chicken Parmis to Coconut Barramundi, Vegetarian Lasagne and Spaghetti Bolognaise, you could eat something new every night of the week for the next two weeks. The menu is available from Wednesday to Sunday from 4.30pm to 7pm, call 5575 3211 to order.

Cambus Wallace
Some of the best pub-style grub around comes from the team at Cambus Wallace including Scotch Fillet Steaks, Lamb Shanks and Haloumi Cheese Cigars (which are one of the greatest things on earth). They’ve also got bites like chicken tenderloins, arancini tofu and there’s a fish and chips dish you have to try. Accompany those with one of Cambus’ new bottled cocktails and who needs to go out anyway. Order online here.

Bine Beer Bar
The Nobby’s beach crew at Bine Beer Bar are slinging their usual epic eats to takeaway including Parmis in a box with Chips and Slaw for just $15. Add a beer for $5 and that’s the Aussie dream. Of course, they’re doing their mouth-watering Burgers too and there are plenty of Wings on offer if you want to get your hands dirty. Which you no doubt do. Add wine too if you like. Eddie’s Grub House

uxtaposed against the sparkling Coolangatta sea is the dark and grungy good-time den that is Eddie’s Grub House.

It’s a New Orleans-style dive bar and rock n roll personified with a dartboard in the corner and chalkboard pillars sporting cheeky messages and tiny works of art. Framed photos of Elvis and the like adorn the back wall while another is stacked high with a collection of spirits the King himself would be proud of.

Put simply Eddie’s Grub House is all the good things you won’t find anywhere else on the Gold Coast and if that’s not enough to persuade you, their new menu definitely will.

Eddie’s war cry reads Whiskey, beer and fried chicken. All Marinated in Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll” and while this is true, burgers and hot dogs are the stars of the latest show.

The Menage Abbatoir consists of an all beef patty, two southern fried chicken tenders, bacon, cheese, an onion ring filled with red cheddar, Coopers Ale BBQ sauce and special sauce – it’s a doozey, good luck. Not quite that brave? The Philly Cheeseburger also packs an all beef patty simply plus cheese, sautéed mushrooms, onions and peppers. The Sloppy Joe Cocker is a beef party, chilli con carne, sour cream and shallots. Prepare to get saucy.

Onto to the hot dogs. They’re all made with Eddie’s signature jalapeno, course ground dogs rammed into a milk bun and served with fries of course. The O.G is literally that – a timeless hot dog classic filled with ketchup, mustard and red cheddar cheese. The Philly Cheese Dog boasts matching ingredients to the burger of the same name but dog-style.

If all that’s not enough to render you useless for the rest of the day add on some Texas Chilli Cheese Fries – they’re coated with Eddie’s fire dust, bacon and scallions and smothered in hot cheese sauce.

Forgive us for we have sinned.

HOURS: Tuesday to Thursday 12pm to 10.30pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 12am and Sunday 12pm to 10pm.

LOCATION: 171 Griffith Street, Coolangatta.

Pie Pie

Living in the lucky country, there are MANY things we Aussies have to be grateful for and at the very top of that list is the humble pie. Think about it; crispy pastry goodness filled with tastiest of fillings and all coming together in a convenient, hand-held treat topped with another top Aussie goodie, tomato sauce.

The lucky country, see.

The beloved pie began its life as a simple guy (definitely a guy) with a tasty meat filling that couldn’t be faulted. Now though, times have changed and the pie has been forced to change with them. And of course, we are all about that.

Enter, Pie Pie (so nice they named it twice). It’s Burleigh Heads epic new eatery and you guessed, it is the pie shop of your ‘Strayan dreams.

Found on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Second Ave, Pie Pie has taken up space where a convenience store once lived and it is bringing you some absolute gourmet goodness of the pie variety.

Owners Paul and Daniel Serpa saw a gap in the gourmet pie market and decided to dedicate an entire corner space to the newbie and just wait until you hear what’s on offer.

In terms of gourmet pies, there are gems like the Danny Dorito filled with slow braised pulled beef brisket, nacho cheese sauce and black beans and topped with lime guacamole and corn chips. It’s mind-blowing isn’t it?

Next up there’s the Chook vs. Mushroom with chunky chicken breast and field mushrooms in a braised leek mornay sauce and topped with Camembert cheese and a juicy mushroom.

For breaky, because breaky pies are the best kind of pies, the Baconegganotar Pie is roast veg ragu, 24 hour pulled beef, streaky bacon, a free range egg, melted cheese and mini hash browns stacked over a crusty base.

They’re all absolute taste sensations.

There are also delicious bowls like the Samurai Bowl with crispy karaage chicken, shaved red cabbage, shredded cabbage, brown rice, all the salad stuff, wakame seaweed salad, Edamame beans, a boiled egg, Kewpie mayo, tamari and soy dressing, pickled ginger and Wasabi peas. So all the best things.

YUM. And there are epic jaffles too.

At Pie Pie, everything is made onsite. The meat is grain fed, organic veggies are used where possible, all the packaging is biodegradable and there’s no hormones, GMO or preservatives.

The team also make sweet treats like apple pie and tarts and use organic coffee by Joy.

It’s a bit of a healthy takeaway style situation right in the heart of Burleigh Heads and we predict everyone’s lives are about to be filled with a whole lot more pies.

Get in there guys, it’s the goods.
