It’s one thing to gather the girls for breakfast at your favourite café but it’s another thing entirely to enjoy said breakfast within a sun-drenched garden setting, dressed in your prettiest outfit and comfortable in the knowledge that what you’re about to enjoy is beyond any early morning eats you’ve ever sampled before.

Enter Garden Kitchen & Bar at The Star Gold Coast. The team there have recently launched a breakfast offering, curated by Chef de Cuisine Daniel Fox, that is the perfect mixture of the dishes you know and love, and weekly specials that are sure to knock your socks off.

The new breakfast menu takes inspiration from the restaurant itself. The beautiful dining room boasts the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor vibes which led to creating colourful dishes with a contrast of light and dark.

With produce at the forefront of the menu creation, they were able to showcase a variety of seasonal vegetables and fruits. This is particularly evident in the Garden Breakfast Salad which is described as an ever-changing treasure trove of seasonal flavours, herbs, whipped ricotta, avocado, macadamia and a seasoned son-in-law egg.

What a delight.

Other menu highlights include the Signature B + E Roll (fried egg, streaky bacon, tasty cheese, tomato, spinach, Siracha mayo on a toasted brioche bun) and the classic Avocado on Toast (sliced avocado on toasted Turkish bread with citrus dressed rocket, served with roasted tomato).

Plus tasty new creations like the Apple Pie Jaffle which is an apple pie filled fruit toast jaffle with shortbread crumbs, salted caramel and vanilla ice-cream. Yes please.

A balanced menu if ever we saw one.

Do yourself a favour and pop in during the week to try one of the stunning weekday specials – like a house-made sourdough doughnut with Chantilly cream and pistachio fairy floss for example.

Breakfast runs from 7am until 10.30am daily and you should absolutely sample it all for yourself right now.

Embark on an indulgent Oyster Journey at Nineteen at The Star

Grande Fruits De Mer, Nineteen at The Star (Image © 2020 The Star Gold Coast)

Exceptional seafood is something we in Australia are very lucky to be able to indulge in any time we wish. Across the country there are many regions specialising in different varieties of seafood, all of which are unique to their environment.

As lovers of edible ocean creatures, something perhaps you didn’t know is that certain types of seafood grow and taste different depending on the climate in which they are cultivated. We certainly weren’t aware.

Until we visited the very knowledgeable and talented crew at Nineteen at The Star that is. Led by Executive Chef Uday Huja, who hails from the US originally, the team at the sky-high rooftop restaurant have put together a stunning offer so we can all sample an array of oysters from across Australia and learn about how and why they’re unique depending on the region they’re from. Like you would a wine sampling, but with oysters.

It’s called the Oyster Journey and it’s a delightful experience you can and should try for yourself at the next available opportunity, all while sipping something sparkling overlooking the Gold Coast skyline.

For $32, you (and your lucky plus one) will taste three oysters each from various locations (dependent on the season) and find out exactly how different each regions’ oysters taste.

Wallis Lake in NSW for example, produces an oyster that has what is called a ‘umami’ flavour, meaning it’s neither salty or sweet but perfectly balanced, while Pambula in southern NSW offers a sweet, briney oyster and Shoalhaven, also in NSW is producing a sweet, creamy oyster and let us tell you, the difference is obvious once you taste them all in succession.

The oysters are dressed with Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne Mignonette and it is one of the absolute most beautiful tastes we’ve ever sampled.

Of course, all of this will be explained to you upon delivery of your dish and you’ll be given cards with more information so you can share everything you know with your friends. We’re big fans of learning about where our food comes from, particularly when it’s of this calibre so we were very excited when Nineteen at The Star launched the Oyster Journey.

If fresh oysters aren’t your jam, delight in one of the two Roasted Oyster options straight from the charcoal oven. Never tried roasted oysters before? Neither had we, but if there’s bacon on it (which there is), we’re in.

Once you’re done with oysters, you’ll probably want to continue indulging in five star dishes and staring out at the ocean, so we highly recommend going for the Fruits De Mer, which is a chilled selection of the season’s finest seafood. And fine it is Gold Coasters.

You can choose from the Petite or Grande options with everything presented on the exquisite platter (think Moreton Bay Bugs, oysters, scallops, prawns and more) is such a flavour sensation, you’ll wonder where it’s been hiding all your life.

The next time you’re in the market for fresh Australian seafood of the highest possible quality, look no further than Nineteen at The Star. You’ll be more than satisfied and you’ll learn a thing or two while you’re at it.

Win, win.

HOURS: Dinner from 5.30pm Wednesday to Sunday and Lunch from 12pm to 3.15pm Friday to Sunday

The set six-course menu starts with a chef’s selection of antipasti followed by their signature seafood pasta, Campanelle Fruitti Di Mare (a seafood pasta of the very best variety) with local prawns, mussels, fish, chili and tomato.

Next is a Cucina Vivo favourite – the Scallopine Di Vitello made up of Northern Rivers Veal, creamy Marsala, forest mushrooms and silverbeet and (our fave) Roasted Potatoes with Truffle Butter also accompanied with the Insalata Di Rucola.

The Star Gold Coast launches Table for 2

Mei Wei Dumplings

As things on the Gold Coast once again begin to pivot, we are hearing welcome news from a few places we haven’t been able to set foot in for far too long. One of which is The Star Gold Coast, the iconic Broadbeach venue that has been home to many a night of dining, drinking and frivolity. We miss it a lot and we’re sure you do too.

Which is why it’s excellent news that The Star Gold Coast is BACK in a limited way from Wednesday May 13th with brand new at-home dining experiences. That’s right friends, dining will take on a new look with the venue’s popular Mei Wei Dumplings, Garden Kitchen & Bar and Kiyomi all launching multi-course share menus to be enjoyed at home.

It’s called Table for 2 and it means you get to once again enjoy unique dining experiences from some of the Coast’s most-loved menus, all from the comfort of your couch, with which you are now very well acquainted.

Each venue is set to offer a four to six course seasonal menu including a selection of the most popular dishes and some of the teams favourites too.

Not only eats though friends, The Star’s beverage team have also developed a series of hand-crafted cocktails, perfectly paired with the dishes, including the likes of a Japanese Margarita and a Cold Brew Martini. There’ll also be a selection of beer, wine and spirits on offer.

Garden Kitchen & Bar

Now let’s chat food. Mei Wei Dumplings will showcase some of the hawker-style venues favourite dishes including Pork Steamed Dumplings, Spicy Kung Pao Chicken and Mango Sago Cream to name a few. The four dishes are available for $70 and serve two people.

Garden Kitchen & Bar will, as always, delight diners with a seasonal menu made up of the freshest produce. For $50 per person there’s marinated olives, King Prawn Salad, Braised O’Connor Shortrib including sides and a Chocolate Trifle for dessert. Yes please.

At Kiyomi, Executive Chef Chase Kojima and his team have come up with something very special and we would like to eat all of this, every single day please. For $60 per person (six courses) you’ll start with Kingfish Miso Ceviche, Ocean Trout with Wasabi Salsa and Chicken Robata. The two main courses focus on the best produce from the sea with the famous Dengakuman Miso Glazed Toothfish and a Seafood Bouillabaisse. Tofu Cheesecake rounds it all off for dessert. Perfection and just $120 for you and your favourite person.

What a delight.

The Star’s Table for 2 menus are available for dinner seven days a week and can be pre-ordered here (don’t forget to add a chilled matching cocktail for $13). You may have your dinner delivered for $7.50 within a 10 kilometre radius or pick up directly from The Darling Porte Cochere.

Welcome back to one of our absolute favourite local destinations. Good news indeed.
