Wiener Haus

For gourmet hot dogs and good times you can’t go past the Wiener Haus.

The much-loved local food truck, offering gourmet hot dogs and sodas with a side of tongue-in-cheek, has put down permanent roots at Stocklands Burleigh.

A stand alone timber and black shipping container is the new home of the Wiener Haus and judging by their opening day crowds, it’s going to be a saucy success.

Offering authentic German Kranskies loaded with a variety of gourmet toppings, the food truck opened in 2013 with the slogan no d*#k jokes.

Their sense of humour, which extends to the menu, has made them household names from Brisbane to Byron Bay.

The ‘Ron Burgundy’ is a traditional hot dog with tasty cheese, red onion and Sauerkraut, the ‘Sanchez’ is made up of sour cream, guacamole, salsa, with jalapeños and corn chips and the ‘Italian Stallion’ is a pizza style dog with tomato and herb sauce, bocconcini, pepperoni and melted tasty cheese.

The Wiener Haus also makes their own sodas in flavours like ‘Granny Smith and Ginger’, ‘Lemon and Lemon Myrtle’ and ‘Pink Lady and Raspberry’.

Exciting times for foodies up and down the coast who need never wait until the weekend for their wiener fix again.

HOURS: 12pm to 8.30pm daily.

LOCATION: Stocklands Burleigh Heads (next to Nook Espresso), West Burleigh Road.

Betty’s Burgers

It’s your happy place

Burgers that glisten, concrete ice cream, thick shakes and cold beers. The apple of Surfer’s eye, this retro themed beach shack will have you coming back time and time again.

Your mouth will water in anticipation for Betty’s Burgers, Betty’s Classic; angus beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and Betty’s special sauce, go deluxe and add pickles and bacon. Enjoy with a side of crispy onion rings and a Peanut Butter thick shake.

Prefer the bird instead? Go the Crispy Chicken; southern fired chicken, lettuce, tomato and Betty’s special sauce. For the vegetarian, a Shroom Burger; crisp fried mushrooms filled with melted gouda and gruyere cheese, lettuce, tomato and Betty’s special sauce.

For the sweet tooth the Concrete Ice cream is a must, “concrete ice cream” you say? Rich, creamy frozen custard set and scraped from the barrel then mixed with the Betty’s goods like hot fudge sauce, dello mano classic brownie, Krispy Kreme doughnuts or marshmallow sauce.

With a menu offering the goods how cold you not be smiling ear to ear. A fun and funky fit out that can be described as french provincial meets a 70’s summer, bright bubbly staff and even a beach comber in store. Betty’s Burgers will be your new found addiction and forever happy place.

Vintage Espresso

Longtime Mermaid Beach favourite Vintage Espresso will launch their new autumn menu on April 1st and it’s sure to be a hit.

Colourful, comforting and with plenty of fun flavour combinations, you might find yourself scheduling a breakfast date every day of the week.

First up, there’s the Pumpkin and Feta Mash with pistachio dukkah on toast and poached eggs perched on top. It’s sweet and savoury and it will warm you from the inside out.

Grilled Madeira, a traditional English dish, is a rich, buttery sponge cake with honey mascarpone, fresh strawberries and coconut and is the perfect choice when you feel like something a little sweeter.

For the healthy breakfast lovers, the Rainbow Bowl is filled with sautéed kale, asparagus, green beans, roasted pumpkin, beets, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage and black sesame rolled poached eggs.

Last but certainly not least try the Quinoa Crusted Chicken Burger with slaw and house pickles. It comes with a side of chips – the Smiths crisp kind – for a unique crunchy spin on your lunchtime burger.

All in all, the new menu is perfectly balanced with a long list of delicious choices that you should definitely hot foot it down to try.

As a pre-launch bonus, small takeaway coffees are only $2 Monday to Friday from 6am to 8am until the 1st of April.

HOURS: Monday to Friday 6am to 2.30pm. Saturday and Sunday 6am to 3pm.
