Market Organics is the wholefood grocer you’ve bean waiting for

You'll be grape-ful for this Southport newbie!

Wholefoods are the new black for good reason. They make us healthier, stronger, fitter, slimmer, spritelier and let’s be real, the closer something is to its natural state, the better. And, when they taste spectacularly good and can be readily sourced from your family-run local grocer/café, it’s basically criminal not to join the healthy eating revolution. We’re talking about Market Organics, the wholefoods one-stop-shop that’ll have you chanting “I love it from my head ‘to-ma-toes’!”.

The beautiful Southport arm of this organic supernova (there are eight other stores scattered around Brissie) boasts an extensive, 100% certified organic produce department, bulk food section, and a variety of refrigerated and dry goods. And that’s not all – the space also houses a Wellness Hub and a herbal dispensary, complete with four naturopaths/oracles of all-things health and wellbeing. No ‘whey’ Jóse!

Founders Samantha and Johan Gelderblom are genuinely passionate about their trade, and have worked tirelessly to share their love for high quality organic produce, wholefoods and sustainable living. It all began back in 2002 when a pregnant Samantha struggled to find organic produce. The expectant couple vowed to live a chemical-free lifestyle, so began sourcing organic produce boxes for themselves and their inner circle. This prompted them to launch Home Fresh Organics, an organic home delivery company, which blossomed into their first Market Organics store six years later. The rest, so they say, is history and it’s hard to deny this progression was ‘mint’ to be!

With a focus on giving back to the community, they avidly support our local network of growers and manufacturers to provide the freshest, seasonal produce direct from the farm. They aren’t franchised, don’t believe in ludicrous mark-ups (same) and are all about community. Hoorah! Valuing the input of customers, their product line has grown to include over 8,000 organic and wholefood items and yeah, it’s fair to say we’re impressed.

We’ve talked you through the grocer side of the biz, so now let’s give the Market Organics Wholefood Café some airtime because quite frankly, we love it so ‘matcha’! Serving up relaxed, nutritious and delicious eats seven days a week, it’s the perfect place to grab a quick coffee, smoothie or meal before doing your weekly grocery haul.

Our vote goes to the Nourish Bowl with togarashi spiced pumpkin, ancient grains, broccolini, edamame, vegan kimchi, sauteed greens and tamari toasted seeds and nuts, completed with a coconut, chilli and lime dressing. Sounds amazing right? Well, this just in – it tastes even better.

Wash it down with an All Day Rosé mocktail, with Plus & Minus zero alcohol rosé served with a hibiscus and rosé infused cube. It’s enough to make us quit drinking. Almost. Not really. But if something were to do it, this would be it.

So it’s ‘thyme’ you head to Market Organics, and ‘lettuce know’ your thoughts! Even if you’re not already a wholefoods superfan, we know this place will have you all like “if you can’t ‘beet’ ‘em, join ‘em.”

Harris Farm Markets opens at Isle of Capri

Ensuring you have the best available produce is an endless endeavour for those with an ardour for all things kitchen related. Whilst we’re incessantly spoilt with the incredible fresh produce growing in this fertile pocket of paradise we get to call home — getting your hands on artisanal goods and locally sourced fare can be a job at the best of times.

Sure, don’t get us wrong; scoping out the farmers’ markets on the weekend without a care in the world is one of the treasures of the week for us Gold Coasters. But what about if we told you you could source great paddock to plate staples and pantry-filling delicacies in one place without much hassle?

Well, family-owned and operated Harris Farm Markets have opened their very first store at Via Roma, Isle of Capri on the Gold Coast. Meaning multiple outings to get the very best things to fill your fridge, cupboards, and larder should be a thing of the past!

At over 1500sqm, the Isle of Capri store is no small feat. Shoppers will have top-quality fresh food at their disposal from a whopping 320 Queensland producers, with more than 500 lines of fruit and vegetables featuring the likes of gourmet mushrooms from Brisbane, strawberries from the Sunshine Coast and the crispiest of lettuces from Redland.

Beyond fruit and vegetables, this all-encompassing space brandishes all manner of health foods and products you could possibly desire, with widespread collections of locally made plant-based foods, over 50 lines of nuts and seeds, a range of milks and honey on tap.

Bakery heroes from Tweed, Bread Social, have been invited into the fold with their own counter space. Baking fresh breads, pastries from the mezzanine level above before cascading their goods down to customer level via conveyor belt (fun!).

Gastronomists will rejoice when they set eyes on the gourmet grocery section of local boutique products and an extensive deli with more than 400 cheeses — yes, you read that right. These parcels of joy will feature dairy and nut examples — in their very own Cheese Lane — from hard-working local legends Woombye, Olympus, and Casa Motta, plus many many more.

Five in-house butchers are on hand to cut meats to order exactly as you want them, as well as family-operated Papacosta fishmongers, with over five decades of experience bringing devoted customers the best and freshest seafood from all over the country.

Tying the whole market space together is some carefully considered décor paying tribute to the Gold Coast lifestyle, including over 200 buoys painted by Surfers Paradise State School children, a suspended refurbished boat, and artworks by the Gold Coast’s son of contemporary art and murals Kiel Tillman!

Unfortunately, it is thought some 25% of Australian crops don’t even make it to supermarket shelves because they aren’t attractive enough. Frankly, that’s a crying shame — and a wasteful one at that. Harris Farm Markets proudly gives these fruits and vegetables a chance to be used and enjoyed through their Imperfect and Re-purposeful Picks schemes. Meaning you can get your hands on some luscious produce for a reduced price — perfect for broths, popsicles, and smoothies if you ask us!

With Christmas only just around the corner — and the errands list slowly filling up — look no further than Harris Farm Markets at Via Roma for all your nutrient-dense plate filling needs this festive season!
