Your chance to take the stage with Joel Creasey

Calling all budding comedians… and comedy lovers!

Do you think you’re funny? Maybe you fancy yourself as a bit of a comedian but don’t know how to give it a red-hot go. Well friends, do we have some news for you, but please don’t tell your dad because they all think they’re hilarious and well…. #dadjokes. The Star Gold Coast is teaming up with comedy superstar, the wet-your-daks-funny Joel Creasey, for a comedian recruitment drive! That’s right, rising LGBTQIA+ comedians (and everyone else), irrespective of how you identify – have the chance to vie for a gig in Joel’s Camp Comedy tour next year! Like, SHUT UP!! Which reminds us, why did the mushroom get invited to the party? Because he’s a fun-gi. Get it – ‘fun guy’ and we probably should stick to our day job.

Taking place at the Atrium Bar on Wednesday 3rd August from 7.30pm, Super Funny With Joel Creasey will be a career launchpad for one extremely humorous human, and a guaranteed funnybone tickler for anyone who loves a bit of a LOL. Oh, and did we mention it’s free entry so even if you’re not the open-mic type, there’s really no excuse not to pop down for a laugh and a lager.

Wannabe stand-ups will take the stage alongside Joel for a five-minute set and their chance to join the tour, and merely standing next to this unfiltered comic genius is surely any aspiring comedian’s dream! Whoever takes the crown will also work alongside some of Australia’s other comedic greats on said tour, plus can brag that their funniness is officiated by people with blue ticks #InstaVerified.

A media sensation and proud LGBTQIA+ flag-flier, Creasey drew inspo for this casting call collab from his own personal experiences. Despite society becoming more pro-diversity and pro-inclusion, that first crack at live comedy remained an ever-daunting prospect. A staunch supporter of the next generation of comedic talent embracing all backgrounds, genders and orientations, Joel is keen to give a voice…and a mic…to a new generation of diverse and of course side-splittingly funny comedians.

Now there are two things that go hand-in-hand with comedy and no, we don’t mean running mascara and jaw spasms from all the laughs. We’re talking food and beverages of course, because aren’t we always?! There’s an exclusive menu for the night, with $10 pizzas and snacks and yes, this is the gift that just keeps on giving. Pizza wise, how about Roasted Pumpkin, Mushroom, Capsicum and Olives or Chicken, Red Onion, Mushroom and Aioli? Perhaps a good ‘ole fashioned Ham, Pineapple and Napoli Sauce variety is more to your liking, or Pepperoni with Napoli sauce, Red Onion and Oregano? Not a pizza fan? Firstly, we cannot be friends anymore and secondly, how about Aioli Fries, Seasoned Wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli, Onion Rings with BBQ sauce, or Salt and Pepper Calamari with aioli. No judgey eyes from us if you want to order the lot coz #samesies.

It’s pretty much obligatory to eat your body weight at a buffet, but when we’re talking about Harvest Buffet at The Star Gold Coast, you’ll eat your partner’s, besties, and besties partner’s too. From the freshest seafood like oysters, prawns, sushi, crabs and mussels, to roasts from the carvery, as well as people-pleasers like pizza, pasta, curries, soups and salads, even the fussiest eater will be raving about the food. And don’t even get us started on the decadent dessert bar including THAT chocolate fountain, and how do we get one of these installed at home please?

Just when you think they can’t possibly inject more variety or yum factor into this iconic buffet, colour me happy – they do! Over the next few months, the Harvest Buffet chefs are serving up themed food a-plenty, with Christmas in July, Indonesian Month and British Month, and we are here for All.Of.It!!!

Christmas in July
Actual Christmas is fast approaching and we are all kinds of shooketh coz, just, how??!!…but before we get to that, Harvest Buffet is celebrating Christmas in July now! Not one to ever miss an opportunity to get their festive on, they’re going all out with all the things, including a selection of festive favourites like roast turkey, honey glazed ham, braised parsnips, mince pies, gingerbread and pavlova. It’d be rude(olph) not to check it out!

Indonesian month
August is another month not to be missed at Harvest Buffet because they’re cooking up an Indonesian feast of epic proportions and seriously, we could eat nasi kuning for lunch and dinner on repeat. And whaddya know, here we can do precisely that (cue happy dance), along with indulging in other traditional Indonesian dishes like Lombok-style grilled chicken wings, Indonesian chicken noodle soup and rice pudding to name a few. And ok, we’re now drooling.

British month
So we’re globe-hopping from Asia to the UK now coz blimey, it’s British Month this September! And not just that, but it’s time to celebrate the diamond jubilee and anything with the word ‘diamond’ in it has our undivided attention. Feast on some fanciful British delights including sausage and mash, fish and chips, trifle, eton mess and much more. Count us in love!

Kids eat free on Sunday nights!
Parents of the GC rejoice because this isn’t happening in any particular month – it’s e.v.e.r.y m.o.n.t.h! Round up the fam for an end of the week buffet feed, because who can be bothered cooking on a Sunday night and certainly not us. The kids will be delighted with the range of kid-friendly treats like chicken nuggets and sushi, and you will be too coz you’re not paying for them! Valid with a paying adult, you may not leave feeling lighter…but neither will your wallet!
