Aww shucks, we’re invited to Yves sparkling and oyster day

The world is your oyster at Ivory Waterside

What’s better than a serve of oysters paired with a glass of sparkling and duh, nothing. As Sinead O’Connor once put it so eloquently, nothing compares to this combo of ultimate palette pleasers, and we may have slightly tweaked this, but we’re sure she agrees.

Add summer sunshine, breathtaking views of the stunning Terranora Creek in a recently renovated modern space, and this perfect pairing is levelled up to unicorn event status. We’re of course referring to our fave northern New South Wales watering hole, Ivory Waterside, which is hosting the hotly anticipated Yves Sparkling and Oyster Day on Saturday 12th November. Can we have a Shell Yeah!

Elevating the flavour of our favourite ocean-dwelling delicacy to heavenly heights, Yarra Valley’s Yves is the perfect drop of choice to fuel this summery affair. It definitely gives us fan-sea vibes (just like our fave luxury brand starting with Yves…and ending with Saint Laurent), especially when we’re perched on a welcoming deck living our best lives #LetMeTakeAShelfie.

Ticket holders can pop along anytime from 12pm AEST (yep, daylight saving will be back, that confusing ‘ole chestnut) to enjoy their six succulent oysters #drool, two glasses of Yves Sparkling, and soothing live acoustic tunes. If you’re like us and eternally on a seafood diet (see food and eat it), stay on for a graze or something heartier. With a deliciously fresh menu of starters, tasting plates, mains, salads, desserts and of course, oysters, there’s something to tickle everyone’s fancy. And we certainly won’t judge if you order another bottle or two of Yves because we get it – once you pop, you can’t stop!

We’ve always had a soft spot for the Ivory, but since she’s undergone a little nip and tuck she has a whole new lease on life! Whether you’re a local, traveller, boating enthusiast or sunset chaser, there’s a lot to love here. From the adjoining marina and picturesque Terra Creek outlook, to the beautiful events space perfect for your next soiree, it’s the ultimate in waterside dining. You can even get your rad on with tons of vintage arcade games in Benny’s Arcade. Donkey Kong, we’re coming for you!

So, find out why oysters and sparkling really do taste better when consumed on a waterside deck and yes, we can confirm that this is fact #OurJobIsSoHard. If you’ve been to Ivory Waterside (or Ivory Tavern as it was known in a previous life), we don’t need to sell you on its prime location overlooking the gorgeous Terranora Creek, mouth-watering food or good time feels.

This Tweed treasure has acquired a loyal following over the years and with its recent makeover injecting more trend factor, enjoying a vino here slays on a whole new level. And speaking of adult grape juice, Ivory is levelling up its events game with a real corker of an evening in the works and guys, we were ferment for this!

Clear your diaries on Thursday 13th October for Pikes Wine Dinner, set to bring the Clare Valley to Tweed for a one in a semillion night of sensational Pikes sips and delectable Ivory eats. Cloud wine, here we come!

This 4-course dinner extravaganza will be prepared lovingly by Ivory’s Head Chef Anton Ram-Bawn and if you’ve sampled his cooking before, you know you’re in for some inspired nosh. To really enhance the flavours, dishes will be paired perfectly with six of Pikes wine’s finest drops.

For the astute mathematicians amongst us, that’s precisely two more wines than dishes per person and this is SO oak-ay with us!

Staged in the beautiful Boyd’s Bay room, your peepers will be as indulged as your tastebuds as you take in breathtaking views of the creek and stunning surrounds. The modern building incorporates a 32-berth marina (#boatsboatsboats) and as part of its high quality reno, features a shiny new function bar and plenty of on-fleek furniture for like-worthy selfies.

Now operating under the 40 years-young family-owned Hurley Hotel Group, Ivory’s South Australian owners had a genius idea to add a little ‘homeland’ SA goodness into the equation. And what better way than to create a dinner event incorporating Pikes wines #bravo.

Pikes are synonymous with character and personality, reflecting the variety, vintage, and idyllic Clare Valley conditions. A combination of both modern and traditional winemaking techniques are used, and the result is locked and loaded with finesse and style. Sip sip hooray!

You’ll be greeted with a Riesling on arrival to set the tone, before tucking into Coconut Poached Prawns with a broken noodle salad and chilli for starters, served with a glass of refreshing Luccio Pinot Grigio.

Next, there’s an array of delicious mains to share, like Rosemary Roasted Whole Chicken and Roast Bone-In Lamb Shoulder, paired with Los Comp Shiraz Tempranillo and Dogwalk Cabernet Sauvignon elevating the flavour profiles to unprecedented heights.

For dessert, treat yo’self to something a little sweet…and savoury. The Apple Bee Sting with fresh berries and lemon cream will take you to your happy place, especially when paired with a glass of Luccio Novello.

And of course no multi-course dinner of this stature is complete without a Cheese Board to share, levelled up with EWP Reserve Shiraz. Perfection!

The Oyster Shed opens on the water at Tweed Heads

If there is something worth crossing the border for, it is oysters fresh out of the water with a side of sweet, icy cocktails and a bucket of prawns for good measure. Conveniently, that’s exactly what you can expect from brand newbie The Oyster Shed, down on Birds Bay in Tweed Heads.

It’s the work of local duo Lee and Rob Eyre and their son Matt who have owned Catch a Crab for many years.

They’ve always had the space but recently decided to convert it into somewhat of a waterfront garden slash fancy shed-style situation and it really is one place you’re going to want to pay a visit to over summer.

With sweeping 180 degree views of the Tweed River and the oyster holds where your dinner will come from, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon of the freshest possible seafood, a few cold beers and a cocktail or two.

You can pull up a seat by the open windows inside, out under the deck or under an umbrella but it doesn’t really matter, the views are second to none and the seafood is what you really came for. And what a selection there is.

Oysters obviously, any way you like – as shooters, Kilpatrick, fresh with a little lemon, you name it and it’s yours.

Plus of course, one of the greatest things about being an Aussie, a bucket of prawns.

There’s also tapas delights like tacos, chicken skewers and plenty more, they’re all an absolute taste sensation.

Wash it down with one of three Black Hops or Seven Mile beers on tap, a generous selection of wine or perhaps a cocktail.

There are Espresso Martinis, a Mac the Nice made with the magical Brookies Macadamia Liqueur and a Birds Bay Breeze with Malibu, pineapple and cranberry – the perfect summer sip.

There’ll be seafood specials every week, depending what comes in fresh off the trawler and live music so it really is a party down Tweed way.

The kids are welcome and there’s plenty of space for them to play, best to make a booking it’s quite popular down there (with good reason).

Do yourself a favour and head down, it’s the quintessential Aussie experience and right here in our backyard. Lucky us.
