Husk Distillery is back with a gin-credible new flavour: Ink Bitter Orange Gin.
Oh, what a glorious day gindeed.
We cannot even begin to believe our luck – because while we technically can’t always be kicking back, sipping the day away with beloved bevvy of choice (unless we’re on holidays, then all rules are out the window), sometimes life presents us with the perfect little excuse to treat ourselves.
In case you didn’t already guess on account of all those oh-so-subtle puns, we are talking about the superior spirit-of-all-spirits – gin, here — and okay that kind of feels like picking a favourite child, but it’s definitely top three at the very least.
And if you, like us are quite partial to a premium drop, you’re probably already well acquainted with the name Husk Distillery, the wizards and creators behind the iconic purple Ink Gin that burst on to the scene back in 2015 – and in to our shopping baskets ever since.
Of course, when word got out about this fancy new colour-changing gin, the novelty and intrigue had us #addingtocart like the thirsty little bowerbirds we are – but one taste and we quickly realised this gin was oh so much more than a pretty face colour.
So imagin our delight to learn that the Husk wizards are back with a fresh new addition to their lineup, releasing their zesty new flavour Ink Bitter Orange Gin just in time for the warmer months.
Because if we can’t be livin’ it up Euro-vaycay style with what feels like almost everyone else on the ‘gram, we’ll certainly settle for what tastes like sun-drenched Euro summer-in-a-glass instead.
Schedule your bottle-o run ASAP, because you know anything coming out of this small but mighty paddock to bottle operation is headed straight for newfound fave status.
For head distiller Quentin Brival, the aim was to “create a truly unique offering that highlights the robust and multifaceted nature of bitter orange flavour”, noting that due to their post-distillation infusions the final result is balanced, smooth and versatile.
True connoisseurs would describe the latest Ink Bitter Orange Gin as having strong, unmistakable juniper notes and a fresh orange tang, along with notes of camomile flower, caraway and aniseed myrtle leaf – but we feel a slightly more succinct #ridiculouslyyum sums it up just as well, tbh.
The new signature orange flavour is thanks to a botanical basket starring no less than four oranges, each bringing their own signature zesty notes to this little party in a glass.
Along with additions of bergamot and grapefruit, there’s bitter orange with hints of tart mandarin and reclaimed orange leftover from the original Ink Gin distilling process…. and we don’t know about you guys, but orange you glad you’re doing your bit to reduce waste?!
The drop was designed to evoke nostalgia at first sip – with the humble orange being the mainstay of many a childhood halftime snack the nation over, while also leveraging local produce and a booming Aussie citrus industry.
Made with negronis and sun-drenched aperitifs in mind, Ink Bitter Orange Gin boasts a highly versatile palette working beautifully in all classic cocktails. “Those who get their hands on Ink Bitter Orange Gin can expect an extraordinary experience”, adds Quentin.
We’re calling it, ‘our new fave drink of summer’ is has arrived early (and we’re not complaining).
