Roger and Brodie Cook are the dynamic twin brothers behind Lucent Globe, a game-changing startup based right here on the GC. Since kicking off in 2021, their company has been on fire, racking up over 60,000 orders a year. But what’s their secret sauce? It started with a life-changing trip to Mt Everest, where they saw firsthand the damage of single-use plastics. Back home, they were determined to make a difference, launching Lucent Globe with a mission to shake up the cleaning game with sustainable solutions. We chatted to the brothers about Lucent Globe’s wild ride and their big dreams to make the world cleaner and greener.
How long have you been Gold Coast locals?
Our whole lives, we have always lived on the Northern end of the Gold Coast
What do you love the most about the Gold Coast?
The beach and the people!
Tell us a bit about yourselves.
We are identical twins, we have both studied for degrees in business and Roger has been a Chemistry teacher. We both grew up on the Gold Coast doing competitive swimming our entire childhood where we learnt to be competitive and train hard!
Tell us about Lucent Globe.
Lucent Globe is an eco-friendly solution to traditional detergents. We offer products that are free from plastic packaging and harsh chemicals. We pride ourselves on our transparency and competitiveness in price. We don’t think Aussies should be paying half their grocery bill on detergent when they run out.
How did Lucent Globe come about?
We spent a lot of time traveling around the world during our time at university and saw firsthand the impact of single use plastics in some of the most remote parts of the world. We always wanted to start a business together, and we saw an opportunity in the detergent market to disrupt with a new product that had so many great benefits compared to what was currently on the market. Brodie came up with the idea and together we implemented the strategy to get Lucent Globe into as many households as possible!
Why is sustainability so important to you?
We spend as much time as we can out in nature, whether it is on our travels or just on the weekend at the beach. We have had the privilege to see some of the most beautiful natural wonders. We trekked to Mt Everest and travelled as far as remote beaches of Iceland and everywhere we always found plastic pollution.
What has been the biggest opportunity and/or challenge so far?
The biggest challenge so far has been trying to keep up with demand and learn everything about how to run a business successfully, from managing inventory, to creating content, to getting staff in place to help us continue our growth.
What does the future have in store for Lucent Globe products?
We are working hard to continually innovate our existing products and develop new ones! Our goals will be the same in that we are trying to provide a new way to clean, that is more sustainable and reduces waste! We’ve got some exciting new products coming in 2024 that have never been seen before.
Where can we get our hands on your products?
At the moment we are just online.
