Sally Manhire is as stylish as they come and her IG account is one of our style go-tos. Since launching her personal styling business on the Gold Coast 7 years ago, Sally has been the go-to gal for hundreds of women looking to level up their look, particularly those fabulous 40-and-above ladies. Known for her laid-back, friendly vibe and an eye that can spot a killer outfit from a mile away, she’s a wizard when it comes to working with all body shapes, budgets, and lifestyles. She’s also a huge fan of Australian labels, boasting incredible product knowledge that makes her the go-to stylist for anyone wanting to upgrade their wardrobe with effortless elegance.
Whether it’s finding those elusive perfect jeans or giving someone a total confidence boost with a new look, Sally’s style mojo is magnetic. We chatted to Sally about her love for the Gold Coast’s outdoor lifestyle, how midlife has shaped her passion for helping women feel confident, and of course, her top tips for elevating everyday style. And yes, she’s got some juicy insider fashion trends coming your way for the Spring and Summer seasons — spoiler alert: jelly sandals are making a comeback!
How long have you been a Gold Coast local?
I have lived on the GC for about 12 years now.
What do you love the most about the Gold Coast?
Being originally from the UK, this feels like the perfect place to live. The mild climate and outdoor lifestyle are a huge contrast to where I grew up, and it truly feels like paradise!
There’s also this laid-back yet lively energy which I love. I live in the middle of Southport and I still pinch myself that I can drive to the beach in 10 minutes for a morning walk and still have access to great dining, shopping and evening entertainment.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
As a personal stylist, I’ve spent the last decade helping hundreds of women redefine their style and feel confident in their own skin, something I have become increasingly passionate about. Interestingly, I kind of stumbled into this job, but I truly believe I’m where I’m meant to be. When I first began my personal styling business 10 has ago, I was unsure of my target audience but as I’ve moved into midlife, it’s become very clear and I absolutely love it.
It’s fantastic to have Pacific Fair as my workplace, where I get to spend my days enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and immersing myself in fashion and style.
Personally, I’m a mum of two grown children (who still live at home and don’t look like leaving anytime soon) and two fur babies. I am a twin (my twin sister lives very close) and I really enjoy a close knit family. One thing that age has taught me is the importance of connection, whether it’s family or community.
As a relatively new Gold Coaster, I’ve found it refreshingly easy to get involved in the community something I’ve always been keen to do. I am passionate about fitness (I’ve been a member of a brilliant gym for the past 8 years MyFit Health & Fitness Carrara) and I love the community vibe there. I also volunteer for Rosie’s, Friends of the Street, a brilliant volunteer community based organisation that supports Gold Coasters facing challenging times.
What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion and styling?
Fashion and styling has always been in my blood and growing up in London, I was surrounded by a vibrant fashion scene thanks to my mother’s market stalls. Some of my earliest memories are of exploring the eclectic shops and bustling markets across the city. My 20s and 30s were spent working in media, but my passion for fashion and styling was always bubbling beneath the surface. Even while raising my young family, I found myself increasingly drawn to the art of styling, often helping friends and family with their outfits for special events. When the time was right, this innate passion guided me to start my own Personal Styling business. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
Who or what inspires you in your styling work? Are there particular designers, trends, or public figures you look to for inspiration?
I am definitely inspired by the amazing collection of women I get to work with. Midlife can be a particularly tricky time in our lives. A time of much confusion and change. Helping women make sense of this is definitely a driving force for me.
I love classic and elegant styling, which is influenced by both my Australian and UK backgrounds. Australia’s laidback lifestyle really has me pining for effortless, laid-back clothing and my UK influence adds a touch of classic elegance to my style preferences. My style icons are Kate Moss and more recently, Naomi Watts.
I think Australian designers are amazing and I work with them as much as I can. I particularly love Viktoria & Wood and Scanlan & Theodore for high-end and brands like Assembly Label for everyday basics – I prioritize good quality over quantity every day of the week.
6. Do you have any tips or tricks for women looking to elevate their everyday wardrobe without completely starting over?
Absolutely! Here are some tips to elevate your everyday wardrobe without overhauling it:
Stop shopping and get organized! I have seen so many wardrobes over the years that are overstuffed with pieces bought in a panic with labels still intact. Take stock of what you already own and clear out what you no longer wear or need. Putting outfits together is a lot easier when you wardrobe only contains what you actually wear and love. Be ruthless.
Get to know your body now: a woman’s body journey is ever changing and you need to get to know the body you are in now and get your wardrobe working for who you are today. Women are very good at finding their flaws but I like to get women to notice and dress for her strengths.
Reevaluate Your Basics: Think quality over quantity. Invest in high-quality basics like plain tees, versatile sweaters, and jeans. All the pieces you wear the most. Pay attention to these pieces as the are the foundation of any wardrobe. Make sure they look and feel good and work with your lifestyle.
Be mindful: Stop the impulse buying and only shop when you genuinely need something new. When you do shop, arm yourself with a list of what you need, try it on and if you are not sure, take a breath. Walk away and put some space between you and the purchase. Do you really need it? Can it be worn with multiple outfits?
Play with Accessories: Accessories like scarves, belts, and jewelry can quickly refresh your wardrobe. They add a new dimension to your outfits without needing to buy new clothes or break the bank. It’s also a great way to play with trends without committing.
Update Shoes and Bags: Sometimes, a new pair of shoes or a stylish bag can refresh your entire wardrobe. Choose styles that compliment your existing clothes and have fun with them. The simplest outfit can be transformed by a great pair of statement shoes or bag.
What are some of your go-to wardrobe essentials that every woman should have in her closet?
If I’m putting together a hard-working everyday capsule wardrobe for a client, I always start with the following:
Great Jeans. I believe there is a great pair out there for everyone. The biggest tip I can give is to try on as many pairs as you have to. It’s a process.
White Button-Down Shirt. Timeless and versatile, it can be dressed up or down.
Tailored Blazer. Perfect for adding a polished touch to any outfit.
Everyday dresses. I love a “one-and-go” outfit and our lifestyle here in the GC offers the perfect climate and lifestyle for great, throw-on day dresses. With pockets, obviously.
Comfortable & Stylish Flats. Essential for everyday wear. I love every part of midlife but the foot situation is tricky. Those heels you squeezed into back in the day will come back to haunt you! Almost every midlife woman I work with has foot issues, so I am constantly on the look out for super stylish flats.
Style tip: Sneakers are always a good idea and look great on everyone.
As a professional stylist at Pacific Fair, what’s the process like when working with a new client?
I truly relish the opportunity to work with new clients. My approach starts with a deep dive into understanding who they are. Of course, details like body shape, sizes, and coloring are essential, but I believe the heart of great styling lies in grasping their lifestyle and personality. By getting to know what makes them tick, I can tailor my recommendations to fit in with their lives and leave them feeling confident and comfortable.
Once I have done this, I pre-shop for my client and have everything waiting for them to try on. It’s very simple, collaborative and fun.
What trends do you predict will be huge this year coming into Spring and Summer?
So many great trends already coming through. I find this time of year quite exciting and although I relish winter styling, I love the colours and fabrications of Spring and Summer.
One of the biggest trends this year is leopard print, whether that’s tops, dresses, slip-skirts, or jeans as well as cool accessories; bags, belts and shoes. Crochet and lace are more popular than ever this year, especially with return of boho-chic and Chloe inspired trends. The sporty athleisure trend is still going strong and Adidas are definitely still having a big moment with sneakers and apparel.
Footwear has been dominated by Mary-Jane’s, mesh-ballet flats, kitten heels and loafers. Summer will also see the a resurgance of flip flops and yes, I kid you not, the return of the jelly sandal!
I am already shopping spring/summer with my clients at Pacific Fair and pastel coloured linen is everywhere and just works so well here on the GC.

How do you choose to spend your days off?
When I’m not working, I am spending time with my two dogs, Dexter and Peanut, at one of our fantastic dog parks or shopping (at Pacific Fair of course).

Sporting the catchy slogan “This Senorita needs a Margarita,” the apparel struck a chord. Upon learning this fabulous creation was the brainchild of Gold Coast locals, we wasted no time reaching out for an interview. Welcome to the vibrant world of Sabbi Clothing, where Jase and Ash blend art, fashion, and a dash of their quirky personalities. Read on to learn about the masterminds of the covetable brand and how the Gold Coast lifestyle heavily influences Sabbi, translating into versatile, fun, and beach-to-bar wearable art.
How long have you been Gold Coast locals?
Jase is a vintage Gold Coast boy and has been here for 30 years. Ash moved over from Perth about 12 years ago, the weather was too hard to resist.
What do you love the most about the Gold Coast?
Jase loves the surf and the laid-back lifestyle. Also, that he can wear Crocs all year round and for every occasion. He’s a water boy so anything on the water is up his alley.
Ash: I love the weather. I’m an early riser, so love that it’s so light so early in the mornings in summer. I also love that you never have to get too dressed up fancy to go anywhere.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
Jase has been in fashion since he was a kid. He was born into fashion working for his Dad from age 15. He’s worked all over the world as a buyer. He lived in China for 5 years, 2 of which were spent sleeping on fabric rolls while he and his best friend Billy set up their own factory. He has many crazy stories from those years, one involving a street poo and using his socks as toilet paper. Jase is so laid-back he is horizontal. He lives in Crocs and is big believer in Karma.
Ash: I have nothing exciting to tell you professionally, I studied design and textiles when I graduated school. I designed school uniforms for 3 years where I spent my days looking at polo shirts and check shirts day in and day out. Then I left work to travel Australia in a van for 6 months, moved to the Goldie, then pumped out a set of (VERY unexpected) twins. I’ve always been drawn to anything creative, dodgy dance floors and dogs. Having twins taught me that if you can’t laugh at yourself, then you won’t make it out alive. It also taught me that those Huggies ads were a big fat lie!
What inspired you to start Sabbi?
Jase left a brand he and his family started 10 years ago and took 6 months off to paint. Jase can’t sit still so after 6 months at home we decided to combine our love of fashion and art into one crazy little brand. Fashion seems to be so serious so we wanted to bring some fun back to fashion. We wanted to make clothes that we wanted to wear with a side of our crazy personalities added.
Tell us about the process of creating your unique prints.
Jase finds a theme or a sketch or a colourway. Ash then finds a saying to match. Something funny or positive and then we both work out a print that we think works.
Sometimes this can take half an hour or sometimes Jase (drives Ash crazy) and will spend 3 weeks finetuning one print.
What sets Sabbi apart from other fashion brands?
We guess maybe our artwork. It’s all hand painted on the Gold Coast by us. We don’t buy our prints in. We then oversee the whole process from design to shipping the orders to our customers.
We’d also say maybe showing the craziness that goes on behind the scenes. We both have other jobs, we have 7 year old twins half the time and throw in two dogs, all living under one roof…the roof also happens to be our warehouse.
Sometimes I look around the house and see the twins eating breakfast at the island table next to a HUGE pile of Sabbi returns on the table, boxes of Sabbi stock stacked up around the TV and it sets off my anxiety. Jase just says, “it’s all part of the journey, baby”.
How would you describe the Sabbi community, and what kind of person do you envision wearing your designs?
The Sabbi community are bloody legends! The support we have received is just mind-blowing. We can’t believe that all these people are cheering for two absolute bogans from Palmy. It still blows our minds that so many people are wearing our clothes when we have only just kicked it off.
The kind of people wearing our clothes love art, know how to have a good time and are all about positive vibes…also love a bloody cold margarita. we didn’t realise there were so many margie lovers out there! IGC.
As Gold Coast locals, how has the local culture and lifestyle influenced the style and ethos of Sabbi?
Here on the Gold Coast, it’s all about lifestyle. Going from the beach to the shops to a cheeky margie with the gals, so we wanted to create something you could wear everywhere but also feel like a solid 10 wearing it!
What’s next for Sabbi?
We have big plans baby so strap in!
We have a killer winter range in the works. We have a men’s range dropping soon and we want to continue to make fashion-forward prints and designs that make people feel good.
We want people to love what they’re wearing and we want to promote positive energy through our clothes. If we can make a few people laugh along the way then we are winning.
What are your Gold Coast favourites?
Favourite café: Don’t hate us. but we love a 7/11 coffee. When we were starting up Sabbi we had to sell everything so our budget was TIGHT AS…7/11 coffee grew on us haha. If we aren’t 7/11ing then Well Bread and Pastry in Palmy.
Favourite restaurant: Deli by Peppi…Cheese wheel Wednesdays are something else!

How do you choose to spend your days off?
Hanging out with the twins, Taking Allen and Merv to the dog park. When we get some alone time we love nothing more than to get a bottle of Pet Nat and sit on the couch in our jammies watching really really sh*t TV (Housewives of Beverly Hills, Southern Charm, Below Deck to name a few) while talking…Jase usually falls asleep and is snoring an hour in.
Lauren Murphy, the Founder/Owner of The Style File Aus is our go-to Gold Coast girl when it comes to fashion advice. She’s the resident stylist for Robina Town Centre, a personal and editorial fashion stylist and a busy mum of two. So, it’s safe to say she knows how to dress to impress! Lauren gave us a rundown on the 2022 Melbourne Cup fashion trends and why she loves calling the Gold Coast home.
How long have you been a Gold Coast local?
My family moved from Sydney to the Tweed Region, (just South of the border), when I was four. At 17, we relocated to Tallebudgera Valley. I then spent my early twenties renting beachside units from Mermaid to Currumbin, and in 2015, bought a house with my husband in Elanora, where we currently live and love with our two children.
What do you love the most about the Gold Coast?
The main things I love about the GC are the laid-back lifestyle, the weather, the beaches, the incredible business starts ups, the healthy lifestyle and the fact that it is a beautiful place to raise young children. I also love the proximity to everything.. for example; the fact that I can go from school drop off to morning pilates to taking a client shopping, followed by a live football game, to dinner and drinks by the beach all in one day is very gratifying.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am so lucky to have a wonderful husband Scott, who works FIFO as a Mining Manager, and two beautiful children – Cuba, 6 and Yorke, 4. I worked my entire teen years, every weekend and school holidays in a Kirra beachfront surf shop. I then went on to complete a Marketing Degree and a 10 year career in Media, Events and Public Relations. But after my second child was born, I decided to shift my career focus solely to my styling business, The Style Files Aus. I work closely with freelance clients on cleansing their wardrobe and shopping in alignment with their personal style, and I am the Resident Stylist at Robina Town Centre. I am a true Libran – a calm creative who loves beautiful things, a fighter of fairness but I am extremely indecisive. I have five brothers and sisters and five foster siblings also.
What made you want to pursue a career as a stylist?
A natural-born creative and a lover of all things fashion, I had dabbled in elements of styling without even knowing it as such in my old jobs. I found myself googling fashion courses while at my desk one day and I had a friend tell me she had enrolled in a styling course. I remember telling my husband “I wish I could do that” and his response was simply, “why can’t you?”. And from that moment on I decided no excuses would override my passion. I enrolled in the Australian Style Institute and took annual leave to complete my intensive personal and editorial styling training in Melbourne. The rest is history!
What trends do you think will be huge this year for the spring racing season?
I’m 100% confident that colour will be huge, especially monochrome colour play with shades of purple, pink, green and orange will taking centre stage. Feminine gloves, puffy sleeves, bows and statement eyewear will all be dominant. Along with woven, rattan textured accessories. Overall, a European Summer influence.
What’s on trend for headpieces this year? Fascinators, headbands, hats, what is your pick?
I think we will see a lot of netting and classic bows. Along with wide brim, sleek hats. And as mentioned above, I think we’ll see a beautiful display of woven, rattan textures.
What has been your favourite spring racing fashion trend to have emerged in recent years?
I love seeing suiting on women on track side! Although it can be a little warm on the GC for that year-round, so I’m going to say the glam 60’s style. Think structured smocks with pinched waistlines and buttons, paired with big hair, thick headbands and mini handbags.
What race day style trends do you think are overdone?
Those higher neck, lace dresses that make a person look 10 years older than what they really are and bodycon/bandage dresses. They are so done.
Which Australian designers are your favourites for racing season?
Aje and Zimmerman always bring the feminine frock goodies and some personal faves favourties of mine for a slight edge are Alice McCALL, Shona Joy and Dion Lee. If you’re chasing a last-minute spring racing outfit, Issue 1 at Robina Town Centre always have beautiful Australian labels.
What do you love about Gold Coast race day fashion?
I love that us Gold Coasters dare to be different and always wear a smile! We aren’t afraid of colour, colour and more colour, and wear outfits that make us feel good aka we’re big on “Dopamine Dressing”.
How will you be celebrating the 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival?
I will be getting dolled up and heading to Nineteen at The Star with a couple of girlfriends for a few champagnes and a cheeky punt. I have always loved getting dressed up for Melbourne Cup and putting a complete look together, head-to-toe, and being around other people so full of energy and good vibes. I can’t wait!
What are your Gold Coast favourites…
Café/coffee spot: Coffee- My local Down to Earth Café for coffee (7th Ave Palm Beach)
Breakfast spot: Plantation House (Tallebudgera Creek Road).
Restaurant: Tommy’s in Currumbin or Light Years in Miami for a girl’s lunch, Nineteen at The Star for fine dining, Ze Pickle Burleigh for a casual burgers and wings.
Bar or place for a drink: I can’t go past a Gold Coast Surf Club! Palm Beach, Currumbin or Tallebudgera are where I go most. Otherwise, it’s my favourite restaurants above with a side of margaritas!
Beach: The Alley, Kirra or 11th Ave Palm Beach. Gosh we’re luck here to be spoilt for choice.
How do you choose to spend your days off?
My days off usually consist of running around after my kids haha. Cuba plays football for Currumbin Eagles and is in Palm Beach Nippers, and Yorke dances at Coastal Dance in Currumbin. There is also soccer and touch football during the week. We also attend lots of kid’s birthday parties and social events lots of different venues around the Coast. I like to try and get to one of our local markets and if I can sneak away, I’ll do a reformer pilates class at Studio Pilates in Palm Beach. BBQ’s with friends by the pool are definitely popular in Spring/Summer, as are beach days with a few sneaky bevies to finish off!

Husband and wife team, Ashley and Dean started Cort Jewellery to create handmade pieces in epic designs and they have become much-loved worldwide.
