Banksy Bar & Kitchen is doggone perfection.
Banksy Bar & Kitchen is doggone perfection.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but.. wait, let’s try that again. Sorry to whoever does have to be the bearer of bad news, because it’s certainly not us. We bring only the very best news, and today it’s in the form of brand new caffeination destination, and srsly, we never tire of this.
Cue the suspense, because there’s nothing like the collective excitement of the entire GC waiting with bated breath to find out who will be welcoming a new haunt to their neck of the woods.
With a well-established background in plying the Coast with exceptional coffee, both central GC locals and devout coffee fans will be delighted to learn of Quest Coffee Roasters branching out to bring us a brand new destination to Broadbeach, Banksy Bar & Kitchen.
As self-professed foodies, a new venue offered owners Alex Mears and Paul Rosenkranz the chance to expand to a food-first destination on the GC. With food being one of the pair’s greatest passions, right after their Viszla pup Banksy – who also happens to be the namesake inspo for the new spot.
Their ethos of “doing good”, with a focus on sustainability throughout all aspects of their business means treating ourselves to brunch has never felt quite so good. For Alex and Paul, choosing sustainably grown ingredients, promoting Australian and small business products, minimising energy usage and compostable, recyclable packaging are all priorities – along with dishing up delish eats and coffee – so it’s perfect 10’s all round as far as we’re concerned.
Alex and Paul describe their interior vision for the new Banksy Bar & Kitchen as ‘comfortable and functional utilitarian’, which tbh feels like it slightly understates this total stunner of a space. The swanky, monochrome industrial-chic space at times feels more like an upscale bar, which – as you might have guessed from the name – is fitting because that is definitely also in the works #watchthisspace.
With a spacious interior framed by double-height windows, it’s perfectly positioned to soak up the morning sun, switching from day to night more effortlessly than our fave LBD. And the fact that it was nestled under dog-friendly apartment building, ‘The Spot’ (which was indeed named after our favourite childhood book) was just the cherry on top.
And as the generation that grew up on soggy cereal, this flavour-packed lineup of modern Aussie cafe fare reads more like our personal brunch bucket list. Simplifying the deliberations ever-so-slightly, the menu is arranged by type: FARM showcases the locally sourced produce, while GRAINS are where the carbs steal the show – rounded out with TOASTIES landing somewhere in the middle. There’s also the rotating SALADS and CAKES selection #forbalance.
Of course, you’ve got the classics like Eggs Benny and Smashed Avo, but the Banksy Big Breakfast – pick from Chorizo, Coffee Bacon, or Avocado – with 2 Eggs (Your Way), Slow Roasted Tomatoes, Garlic Mushrooms, Halloumi, on Sourdough is what brunch dreams are made of. To rival it, The Big Vegan Brekky option – Roasted Pumpkin, Spinach & Tofu Scramble, Banksy Baked Beans, Charred Cauliflower “Bacon” Bits, on Sourdough was certainly no afterthought, packing every bit as much of a flavour punch.
And we would toastally take any one of those gourmet toasties, any time of the day. Tell us you’re not walking out with a smile on your dial after sidling up to a post-beach Fish & Crisp Toastie, Line-Caught Tuna, Capers, Purple Onion, Dill, Colby, Lemon Wedge And Smoked Salt Flakes, Cheddar Cheese.
With a few obligatory pets for the cutest ever mascot Banksy, thrown in for good measure of course.
