Perfect for after work tipples and tasting plates.
Spain is definitely right at the top of our bucket list; the food, the people, the architecture, all things we would like to have in our lives at the earliest available opportunity.
We’re also quite partial to the next best (and far more convenient) thing, which is eating tasty Spanish food right here on the Gold Coast.
Conveniently, that is entirely possible now because Bar Espana opened in Broadbeach recently bringing all the Spanish flair we crave and deserve and it’s a very good time.
Owned by Steve Arnold and Louise Thoms, who also own two Noosa venues, Bar Espana came about because the pair spent 20 years living in Spain (JEALOUS) before moving to Australia. As you’d no doubt be aware, there’s quite the gap in the market for authentic Spanish eateries on the Coast so they decided to fill it. Good news.
You’ll find the newbie on The Oasis Broadbeach side of the mall where Main Street Burger Bar once lived and it’s serving up some very delicious, authentic Spanish eats you won’t find anywhere else.
There are quite a few dining options, which obviously makes us very happy, starting with small bites in the form of Marinated Spanish Olives, Scorched Padron Peppers and Goats Cheese Croquettes with beetroot relish (so yummy).
Once you’ve tasted ALL of those, get involved with a Jamon (dry-cured ham) Bar, there’s a few varieties including one that comes as part of a cheese board. Obviously eat that.
The Tapas section is filled with goodies including dishes like Grilled Chorizo with chickpeas and a sticky honey, cherry glaze, Chargrilled Lamb Skewer, Local King Prawns and Peruvian Ceviche of Kingfish. All of which boast bold, unique flavours that’ll ensure you go back to Bar Espana again and again.
Now of course when in a Spanish restaurant, you must order Paella and we’re quite partial to the seafood version, which is brimming with South Australia mussels, clams, squid, local king prawns, fresh fish, pequillo peppers, peas and saffron rice cooked with housemade stock. It’s absolutely divine and one of the tastiest dishes we’ve sampled in quite some time.
If the choice is too much, you may opt for a Spanish set menu for just $50 per person.
Drinks-wise there’s Sangria which is a must-sip, plus plenty of Spanish reds, whites and sparklings (possibly not a word) plus of course, beers, ciders and Spanish cocktails.
All the best things.
It’s the perfect spot for after work sips and tapas at the bar or a big old feasting celebration with the whole crew.
Do yourself a favour friends.
