Ahhh carafe wine, how we love drinking thee. Whether you’re dry, crisp or sweet, we never say no and this isn’t changing any time soon (or ever). And this just in, as of the end of March we can drink carafe wine at Carafe Wine, which seems entirely fitting and totally trumps wine tasting on the couch. GC, say “Chardon-heyyyy” to our newest winery experience located in Southport, a ‘burb that’s been crying out for something like this…and so have we.
This brand spanking new industrial vibing venue is wine aficionado-friendly, and we’ve drunk enough grape juice in our time to fit this mould. With a focus on premium Australian vino (#supportlocal), and a huge spotlight on sustainability, Carafe Wines is definitely here for the right ‘riesling’. Inviting us to sample the best from Yarra Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, and Hunter Valley among other regions, we oblige. More than a one trick pony, it will also offer wine blending classes and wine appreciation workshops, and just when we thought we couldn’t possibly appreciate our staple beverage anymore, apparently we can.
If you’re wondering who answered our potation prayers, it’s none other than Archie Cox. Archie’s background is #goals, but probably his most notable post was owner of The Playroom Palm Beach. An entertainment icon, anyone who was of age in the 80s and 90s (or not…..) saw the likes of INXS, Nirvana and Midnight Oil at this rock institution. Archie has also been Sales Manager for Tyrells Wines under the guidance of Mr Boss-man Bruce Tyrell himself, built a small conscious winery in WA, and enjoyed a decade-long stint as Head Sales Manager GC – Northern Rivers at Moet Hennessy. Travelling Europe extensively and learning all.the.things about bubbles, wine and distilling from the biggest names in the world, this Keebra Park High grad has wine wizardry up the wazoo.
Before building a bricks and mortar winery, Carafe Wine has been an established premium wine on tap supplier for the likes of Maggie Choo, Edgewater Dining, Miami Marketta, Mamasan Kitchen & Bar, and The Star Gold Coast to name a few. Carafe Wines fill the void for a more conscious and environmentally friendly way to consume, that is, a sustainable wine without waste served from tap to carafe to table. In fact, drinking CW wines equates to a 96% reduction in C02 footprint simply by using reusable stainless barrels, compared to pouring from wine bottles #omg #NoButReallyOMG. Plus, Carafe Wines maintain freshness due to less oxidation, providing the wine drinker (US!) with the ultimate drop every time and LBR, there’s just something fun and luxe about wine arriving in a carafe.
Inspired by the ‘what is old is new again’ sentiment, Archie engaged Belinda Norton and Ana Brandt Design to caretake the interior design of his winery-dream-come-reality. Featuring space for 100 people, mark our words; this joint will woo the masses and successfully champion the all-important message of zero-waste (and by ‘watch’ we really mean ‘taste’).
The signature bevs here are (obvs) the wine on tap, and brandy inspired cocktails #NanWouldBeProud. Food wise, get on board with the Timber Sharing Boards and unique Tin’s Menu, coz wine and sharing boards go together like, well, wine and sharing boards. Feast on the finest cheeses, fresh baguettes and olives, designed for two, four, or more, plus there is a vegetarian option for the non-meat-nommers.
