Go ape for Drunken Monkey.
Go ape for Drunken Monkey.
Swing into Broadbeach and prepare to go bananas at the brand-new Drunken Monkey Café, Bar and Restaurant. If Western-Asian fusion cuisine a-‘peels’ to you, then you’ll be chimply amazed by the innovative nosh, super cool fit out which is equal parts sleek and playful and vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere.
This cheeky new hangout is the brainchild of dynamic couple Jj Bundalian and Storm Hunt. Jj, the head chef and culinary mastermind, has been in hospitality for 20 years, honing her craft in both the Philippines and here on the GC. Her partner in crime (and life), Storm, traded his scaffolding and painting business for the restaurant game, proving that an Irishman with a flair for construction is a force to be reckoned with.
Together, they brought the Drunken Monkey dream to reality, blending elegant, modern Western elements with vibrant Asian flair. The result? An indoor and outdoor space fit for 100 hungry and thirsty diners that’s both stylish and whimsically fun – much like its mischievous namesake.
The menu at Drunken Monkey is a veritable jungle of flavours. A clever mix of bold, fresh ingredients and creative presentations, it’s a melting pot of the best of Western and Asian culinary traditions. Whether you’re in the mood for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Drunken Monkey has you sorted with food so good you’ll be swinging back for seconds.
For breakfast, tuck into a Sundried Tomato and Pesto Pumpkin fold with you guessed it, sundried tomato and pumpkin, rocket, mushroom, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan tomato in a folded tortilla bread. Talk about all the good stuff!
From Monday to Friday, $18 lunch specials await with rotating dishes heroing seasonal ingredients and diverse cuisines. And for the main event, kick off with Truffle Bechamel Oysters (go the dozen!) then share some sensational small plates like Chili Crab Croquet with crab meat, chili, kaffir lime, onion, tomato and mozzarella cheese.
If you don’t want to share and when the food is this good, who could blame you, the larger options are off the chain. Our pick is their sensational signature Beef Caldereta; slow cooked beef cheek with smoked chorizo and green olives on mushroom rice pilaf washed down with a Kiss Me Baby cocktail…or three. Heaven on a plate (and in a cocktail glass).
Speaking of drinks, they host happy hour from 3pm to 5pm, and treat us to live music starting at 6pm. And if you’re feeling particularly bold (or just a little tipsy), why not grab the mic for karaoke night? #SweeeeetCarolineBABABA.
Drunken Monkey Café, Bar and Restaurant isn’t just a place to eat – it’s a place to let your hair down, embrace the wild side, and indulge in the ultimate East meets West dining experience. So, grab your troop and head to Broady for a night you won’t forget. Just don’t blame us if you end up monkeying around until the wee hours!
