How long have you been a Gold Coast local?
I’ve proudly called the Gold Coast my home for 35 years.
What do you love the most about the Gold Coast?
The Gold Coast offers incredible business opportunities and an unmatched lifestyle.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I come from a family deeply rooted in Oxenford for almost four decades, and my attachment to this community remains strong. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had my own communications agency, Ruby Communications and had the privilege of holding several prominent Board positions. During my business journey, I was honoured to receive recognition for my business acumen, including the Australian Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and being featured on the list of top 40 under 40 entrepreneurs in Australia. It has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.
I believe in the power of effective leadership and have strived to be an inspirational leader throughout my career. My experience in business leadership and management has been invaluable, and I am committed to bringing that expertise to my political pursuits. One of the highlights of my business journey was guiding my company through an acquisition phase, where my contributions played a vital role in ensuring the success of post-acquisition operations.
You are running to be the Division 2 Council representative for City of Gold Coast, what made you decide to be a candidate?
The combination of my business experience and my dedication to serving the community’s interests have driven me to run for Division 2.
I’m running because Council needs a strong local voice, an experienced leader, and a true community advocate. I am passionate about our community and want to ensure the residents of Oxenford, Helensvale, and Hope Island have a strong seat at the table. One of the principles I hold dearest is community engagement. I believe that every resident should have an equal voice in decisions that impact their daily lives. That’s why I’m committed to being transparent about my views, attitudes, and how I make decisions. It’s about open communication channels, involving residents in the decision-making process, and fostering a sense of belonging.
It’s time for a new challenge, and I always knew my next step would be serving the community. Since announcing my candidacy 130 days ago, I have already attended more than 60 community meetings. I will wear out my shoe leather to reach my community.
What does a typical day for you look like at the moment?
My day starts with a cup of coffee and getting my boys ready for school. Then, it’s all about the community. I meet with community and sporting groups, attend community meetings, volunteer with local groups and I am out paving the pavement speaking to locals.
What are some of the key issues that you are passionate about and hope to address if you win the seat?
I understand the concerns of residents regarding traffic management and the impact of major road infrastructure projects, especially with the Coomera Connector project commencing construction. While this project is a State Government initiative, I will advocate on behalf of our community to minimise construction disruption and noise for impacted residents. I will also prioritise local road network improvement projects and work with the State Government to ease traffic congestion across our community.
With my 20 years of corporate experience, I understand the importance of managing finances effectively. I’ll work collaboratively to ensure responsible spending while keeping rates at or below CPI. I am committed to financial responsibility and addressing the rising cost of living. My focus will also be on maintaining momentum and delivering on planned projects while prioritising new long-term projects for the community. I’ll consult with residents and we work towards a better future together.
I am deeply committed to supporting grassroots community and sporting groups, believing they are the backbone of our community. Encouraging community involvement and promoting physical and emotional well-being is a priority. Youth crime and hooning are concerns for many residents. I’ll work with the State Government and local police to address these issues actively, ensuring safer suburbs.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing your electorate, and how do you plan to tackle them?
The Hope Island Train Station, part of the Cross River Rail New Gold Coast Stations program, promises to enhance transportation accessibility for the local community. However, the proposed provision of only 179 car parks falls far short of the expected commuter demand. This issue needs urgent attention, and I’ll work tirelessly to address it and prevent commuter parking chaos in our neighborhoods. I launched a petition with the State Government which already has 800 signatures.
What should Division 2 residents expect from a possible Councillor Naomi Fowler?
Residents can expect strong standards of integrity, transparency, and honesty. I’m committed to ethical leadership and open communication. My business experience and passion for politics make me an ideal candidate to serve our community’s interests. I’ll prioritise transparency and uphold the highest ethical standards while keeping a focus on limiting financial waste and keeping rates as low as possible.
