Jungle King swings into Burleigh.
Jungle King swings into Burleigh.
We never tire of tasty Thai street food that puts a modern spin on traditional flavours. Excitingly for our fellow Thai-enthusiasts, Jungle King brings the vibrant essence of Thailand to the Gold Coast in the form of flavour-filled dishes you’ll have to sample to believe.
Found within Treetops Plaza on Reedy Creek Road, Jungle King is the brainchild of Wasan Rotchiratthitikan whose work you might have sampled previously at Mixing Colour Salad Bar in Kingscliff. The fitout was put together by local legends Space Cubed Design Studio, who were also behind the gorgeous interiors at BLOWFISH and Siblings. It’s giving dark jungle vibes with hints of red and gold.
You can choose to sit inside where the action happens or outside on the sundrenched deck but either way, you’ll get to experience some taste-sensation dishes from a very extensive menu that will see you returning time and again.
The menu is the interweaving of fresh ingredients, aromatic herbs and bold spices to offer healthy salad bowls, exceptional curries and so much more. Start with entrees like Chicken Satay, Snapper and Prawn Cake (tried and tested – 10/10) and Fresh Rice Paper Rolls and then absolutely move onto the Street King section of the menu.
Here you’ll find smaller plates Gai Yang; BBQ chicken thigh marinated in lemongrass, black pepper, garlic, turmeric and coriander plus Sai Oua; spicy Thai sausages and Lemongrass Barramundi.
There are Thai favourites like Kow Pad Gai; fried rice with chicken, Pad Se-Ew; rice noodles with your choice of protein and Tom Yum Goong; the classic hot and spicy sour soup you’ve probably tasted before but not like this (there are king prawns in this one).
All the Thai curries you have come to know and love are available on the menu including Jungle King’s signature dish, the Jungle Curry. It’s packed with punchy flavours including a housemade jungle curry paste made with fresh Thai herbs, Thai eggplant, beans, young peppercorn, chilli and basil over Snapper fillets.
The Special Menu is exactly that with dishes such as Larb Tuna; a spicy tuna tartare, Yum Sashimi, Triple Chilli Sticky Pork and Sweet Tamarine King Prawn.
If a salad is more up your alley, you can build your own by choosing from a base of rice, mixed salad, angel hair or soba noodles and then add your topping of choice. All of which are obviously excellent and healthy and very delicious.
No doubt all of that is something you would like to sample quick smart, as it should be. Head down to Jungle King Street Thai and Bowls and say a happy goodbye to everything you thought you knew about Thai food.
