Miami Marketta food stall fave, Kudo Bros puts down roots.
From the streets of Japan to serving at local Gold Coast markets, Kudo Bros have been culinary vagabonds for the past nine years. Through their acclaimed food stalls, they’ve dedicated almost a decade to sharing traditional Japanese cuisine and culture with the people of the Gold Coast. But it’s official! The duo have opened doors at their first permanent establishment, Kudo Bros Espresso Bar & Kitchen. Miso excited!
Famed for their fried chicken and adored for their passionate smiles, the Kudo Bros are far from unfamiliar faces on the Gold Coast. Their long-standing food stall at Miami Marketta has conjured a steadfast fan base, enticing and delighting market-goers with authentic Japanese street dishes. But don’t just take our word for it- let the locals of the Gold Coast convince you! Their enthusiastic shouts of “I love that fried chicken!” upon spotting a Kudo Bros t-shirt says it all. For owners Kei and Takashi, this passionate response was the final sign that it was time to put down roots.
If you have encountered a Kudo Bros food stall, you would know their homemade fried chicken is to fry for. But did you know that the signature recipe has travelled to the Gold Coast and into our salivating mouths from the lively Tokyo district of Roppongi?
Kei inherited the recipe from a local restaurant where he worked as a young boy. Now that’s authentic! This is precisely what Kei and Takashi hope to share with their new venue: traditional Japanese food and culture that we can appreciate and revel in.
If you’re like us, incredible food springs to mind when we think of Japan. Traditionally speaking, onigiri and fried chicken make up good old-fashioned Japanese fare. Thankfully, that’s Kudo Bros’ specialty, and they’re here to delight us. We are soy down for that!
For fledgling folks, it’s strongly advised (by us) that you start with their signature karaage chicken bowl. Famous for good reason, this menu leader is hard to roll by! Their Japanese deep-fried tofu comes in as a close second, and their hot and crispy vegetable tempura is an essential side to any dish. And of course, the humble cheeky tuna mayo maki roll.
Not to be confused with a one-cuisine machine, Kudo Bros Espresso Bar & Kitchen, Robina may focus on serving the best homemade fried chicken, rice balls and tempura, but they also dish up damn fine acai bowls (with all the requisite fruit and crunchy granola toppings) and smoothies. And all our fellow caffeine fiends will be pleased to hear they’re pouring Silipo.
However, it’s not all miso-ing around for the Japanese chefs. They hope to re-educate people outside their home country on traditional Japanese cuisine and culture. If you’ve had the privilege to experience their charming service, you would know that it’s second to none.
This admirable Japanese hospitality, alongside their carefully considered menu, are the qualities that Kudo Bros plans on sharing with the world.
