Light Years Asian Bar and Diner

The exceptional new share-style eats venue in Burleigh Heads.

Byron Bay and Noosa have been lucky enough to experience the goodness that is Light Years for quite some time now and recently, Burleigh Heads was bestowed the honour too.
The modern Asian bar and diner has opened its doors much to the excitement of foodies, those who love a perfectly curated interior and well, pretty much everyone really. The newbie took up the space on the corner of the Lower Gold Coast Highway and Elder Entrance and it has been transformed into somewhat of a work of art.

Light Years is the work of two clever gentleman known as Kim Stephen and StephenFilipvic, and the interior is the (very excellent) work of someone whose name you’ve no doubt heard before – one Mr Jason Grant, a Stylist and Designer (among other things) who brought Light Years to life.
The interior is one of the best we’ve laid eyes upon, all pastels and feature walls with watercolour feathers, exposed brick and breeze blocks, neon signs, velvet chairs, textures and little pops of art by Byron Bay’s Jai Vasicek everywhere. It’s a bloody beauty Gold Coasters and the perfect spot for an afternoon of sunkissed sipping if you ask us.
Our favourite bit is the bar (obvs) with its orange and pastel pink tiles, a window that opens out onto the street, perfectly placed pineapples and party shirts, it’s so good.
Speaking of things that are so good, it’s time to discuss the menu. Which we obviously also adore. Designed to share, the eats range from small plates with options like Mud Crab and Scallop Dumplings and Smoked Katsu Pork Bao Buns to medium plates along the lines of Cumin Spiced Fried Cauliflower and Miso Caramel Eggplant and they are all some of the tastiest dishes on the Gold Coast. Hands down.
There are curries in flavours such as Turmeric and Coconut Fish Curry and you can get delights like Light Years Special Fried Rice on the side and maybe also some Miso Corn (we really love both Miso and corn).
For dessert, don’t go past Bless This Mess (name goals) because it’s yuzu curd, five spice chocolate mousse (what), meringue and raspberry sherbert granita. What a time.
Cocktail-wise you’re probably going to want to try everything but we recommend starting with Sandy Mandy (again props for the name) with Mandarin Liqueur, Aperol, lemon, blood orange, foam and sweet biscuit sand AND the 5 Spice Tiki Juice with white rum, dark rum, Licor 43, pineapple, passionfruit, lime and five spice coconut foam. Don’t think it gets much better than those.
Of course there are plenty of local craft beers and both Aussie and international wines and sparkling sips too.
We love. And we’re not the only ones, Light Years has enjoyed a solid stream of revelers since day one, so you should probably get down there ASAP to see what all the fuss is about.
New fave summer spot, sorted.
