Spring has sprung, and as the balmy weather begins to beckon it’s time to break out the heavy-duty exfoliation routine, fire up the group chat and bid a fond farewell to our #yetiera for another year.

Because The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub is here to seduce us from the depths of our winter-induced hibernations, awaken us with a dazzling experience and well and truly kick off the unofficial return of social szn with a bang.

As far as exceptional entertainment options go, The Pink Flamingo has been providing an extravaganza unlike any other on offer on the GC ever since this saucy little stunner sauntered its way onto Broadbeach’s nightlife scene back in 2019. Scintillating productions that shock and awe in allll the right ways, paired with crafted cocktails, and a stunner of a venue oozing with enough glamour to befit a Gatsby bash. With that perfect balance of atmosphere and aesthetic, a visit to this particular club is always followed by fond mems and the urge to return immediately.

And with seven spectacular productions of all three vivacious shows each week – each just as show stopping in their own right – we should probably do just that. Let your jaws hit the floor as the aptly-named Ripped lads sizzle and slay the stage with their bevvy of chiselled rigs to send you into a flap, while the latest ZIRQUE LA LA dishes up a captivating combo of cabaret meets circus with that signature Pink Flamingo flair – packed with daring acrobatic and aerial abilities you must see for yourself to believe.

Somewhere between the two lands Forbidden, a show that’s a little less risky and a little more risqué, with a Crazy Horse cabaret inspired show to bring the heat in more ways than one. No matter how spicy you prefer your experience, with a host of hand picked world-class international artists from Las Vegas, New York, London and beyond, you’re guaranteed to be blown away.

Also of note are the several purpose built spaces on offer to host all manner of soirees, equally as suitable to hold birthday bashes, high class hens do’s and luxe ladies nights – which is also a very fortuitous tidbit to keep in mind as those festive celebrations start to loom in the latter half of the year #notetoself.

With two creative masterminds at the helm, it’s little wonder the Spiegelclub is renowned for a next level night of immersion. Anthony (Tony) Rigas and Sue Porrett are the dynamic duo behind the project, combining their complementary strengths and extensive industry experience to constantly drive the Speigelclub to breathtaking new heights.

“Tony’s boundless creativity is paired with industry knowledge and expertise that is truly unmatched, making him a force that cannot be rivalled in the nightlife event space.”

So just what is the secret sauce behind creating a game changer of a venue like The Pink Flamingo? The club credits Tony’s eagle eye for talent: “Tony is about putting the right people in the right environment to create the perfect entertainment venues. He has built his success by assembling a diverse management team featuring the best in their respective fields.”

Heading the creative vision for the production, Sue brings a unique perspective and passion to the project, with her formative years spent in South Australia’s spectacular circus and carnival industry fostering a lifelong love of the theatre of the stage.

“From travelling the world as a sought-after aerial cirque acrobat to creating and producing hundreds of lavish large-scale events and international stage productions, Sue’s knowledge of the industry is second to none” said the team.

For long-time friends Tony and Sue, The Pink Flamingo is a business marriage made in heaven and ultimately a culmination of creative forces, “a concept where all could come together in one iconic venue right here on the Gold Coast.”

Sue always says, ‘the best is yet to come’, and in the case of The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub their continued ability raise the bar certainly never ceases to amaze.

Life is a ZIRQUE-us, so enjoy the show!

How far we’ve come since the days when our nightly entertainment options on the GC basically consisted of.. going to the movies (or if we were lucky, there was a footy match to catch). Now don’t get us wrong, we love over-priced popcorn as much as the next punter, but it’s good to have options.

We’ve been undergoing somewhat of a cultural revolution and it shows – nowadays we’re totally spoilt for arts and cultural events, of course there’s our technicolour gem HOTA sitting pretty right smack bang in the middle of the action, and even our alleyways are coming alive with street art. These days, there’s more entertainment options than you can poke your theatre binoculars at.

ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)
ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)

We’ve got some brand new contenders to our thriving entertainment lineup that are so hot off the press that they’re still a little steamy. We haven’t seen as much glitz, glamour and such daring ensembles since the Logies last came to town. Dust off the sequins, clear the calendar and prepare to be dazzled, daaahlings – because The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub has two brand new extravaganzas set to grace its stages that promise to be even more daring and boundary pushing than anything they’ve done before.

ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)

Ever since this saucy little minx of a destination shimmied its way onto Broadbeach’s nightlife scene, the only thing flowing more freely than all the LMAO’s, OMG’s – and in the case of the acrobatic stunts – the WTAF’s, is all that champas on account of the VIP bottle service. When it comes to The Pink Flamingo, it’s not just about the show; it’s the whole experience, baby.

In spite of what our favourite movie says, The Pink Flamingo is proof that pink should never just be reserved for Wednesdays (and if you don’t get that reference then #youcan’tsitwithus. While at times the vibe might be a little more 50 shades of grey, the those trademark interiors are always 50 shades of #pinkperfection. It’s not often we’re treated with a theatre where the surrounds are every bit as show-stopping as the main event, but those glam, Art Deco inspired digs are srsly worthy of a visit alone.

ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)

The new show ZIRQUE LA LA is more hotly anticipated than a B&E roll on a Sunday morning, replacing the runaway success show THE GLITZ after its exclusive 12 month run. Bringing together a fusion of heart-stopping acrobatics, sultry burlesque, cabaret and comedy, ZIRQUE LA LA is everything you love about the circus with a special Pink Flamingo twist, packed with acrobatic and aerial abilities you must see for yourself to believe.”

With the Spiegelclub headed by a co-founder who literally ran away with the circus as a child, Sue Porrett’s lifelong dream to bring brilliant circus nostalgia to Broadbeach has finally come to fruition with the launch of ZIRQUE LA LA earlier this year. Jumping through all the hoops to bring us a jaw-dropping new show, the preparations for ZIRQUE LA LA began with an international casting call to source some of the rarest skills from circus acts from all around the globe.

ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)

For anyone who has been known to throw their back out by simply *getting out of bed in the morning* (can relate), prepare to be thoroughly shocked and awed by these thrilling world-class acts (maybe also slightly envious). From hair-raising stunts by aerial artist extraordinaire Nini Storm, suspended from the ceiling by her hair alone – or in the case of the resident ‘Strong Man’ Desco Amat, by only his teeth during his mind-blowing ‘dental jaw’ manoeuvres.

Another option if you prefer your shows a little less risky and a little more risqué, straight from the streets of Paris’ Crazy Horse cabaret club vibe, FORBIDDEN is set to be the most sizzling, hottest show the city has ever seen. Featuring the best of acts from legendary cabaret, FORBIDDEN consists of a series of highly aesthetic scenes by a cast of eleven classically trained, male and female dancers clad in costumes that leave little to the imagination, so, y’know more skin than Burleigh beach on a summer’s day.

ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)
ZIRQUE LA LA, The Pink Flamingo, Broadbeach (image supplied)

FORBIDDEN is teased as being ‘Provocative, daring, and scintillating adult entertainment for those ready to leave their inhibitions behind’, so the performers may not be the only ones breaking a sweat here guys #itsgettinghotinhere. Gather up the besties and one-and-only’s, because this show is the kind of mandatory viewing that is far saucier and sexier than any Bachelor season we’ve ever heard of.

For The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub dream team, they believe the fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down – and their mission to see the glitter strip sing after dark is quickly becoming a reality. Locals and visitors continue to flock to this theatrical wonderland for some must-see entertainment, a VIP experience and a night filled with flamboyance (which also happens to be the collective term for flamingos – how very #fitting), fun and frivolity.

Lime up for Broady’s new Mexican bar

Hola, fellow Mexican food (.. and drink, lbh) enthusiasts – aka absolutely anyone with a tastebud or two rattling around in their noggin’ – ‘tis is an extremely excellente day indeed.

With an all new Mexican eatery and margarita bar, Nude Amigos, sauntering into the Broadbeach eats scene for our feasting, frolicking and, er.. fiesta(-ing) pleasure.

For a newcomer with a name like Nude Amigos, it’s certainly easy enough for the imagination to get carried away, though thanks to the inclusion of an ‘unmatched Margarita Bar’, we’re verrrry happy to confirm this is indeed the kind of establishment where all the spicy action is of the culinary variety #notthatkindofplace #sendfoods.

For owners and passionate nudies foodies Darren and Sara, of Kin acclaim, the aim was to create a vibrant culinary playground where food enthusiasts (#itus) and margarita aficionados (#alsous) gather.

Sara adds “nestled by the park, this airy Broadbeach gem offers an oasis for sipping tequila cocktails, savouring fresh, authentic Mexican delights, and simply kicking back with your buddies.”

Umm, that gets a big from us!

The interiors are somewhat of a Gold Coast style ode to Cancún.

At the heart stands the sprawling venue-length bar, complete with beach-hut style thatched roof – though the glittering collection of exotic tequilas and mezcals adorning the shelves beyond do their very best to steal the show.

The breezy space has opted for an otherwise light and bright colour scheme to complement the rustic, natural elements such as travertine tiling and sea grass feature lighting, making it all too easy to forget you’re not actually on a Caribbean island vaycay (esp. after a few sneaky samples of those aforementioned sips).

The arrival of Nude Amigos to the Broady strip also officially provides some much-needed closure for the wholesome eats shaped hole left in our hearts, following the departure of Cardamom Pod and its impressive 10+ year prior reign in the spot.

Though, to the delight of our plant-based brethren, its predecessor also boasts an extensive and considered vegan and vego selection #kaleyeah.

Fresh, local produce takes centre stage for the entire lineup of enticing eats – in the form of next-level authentic Mexican fare.

“We believe in celebrating the richness of Queensland’s produce,” Sara shares.

“It’s our way of infusing the essence of Mexico into every bite and sip.”

The menu ranges from bites that will perfectly pair with any of the signature margi’s, to a full blown banquet option (and look, we’re still gonna pair it with a marg, even if that means farewell to our trusty top buttons).

Brimming with fare as instagrammable as it is flavour packed, both the Elote, Char-grilled Corn with coriander mayo, tajin and queso fresco cheese (or vegan upon request) or the show stopping Seafood Pineapple – Half a Pineapple filled with King Prawns, sautéed capsicum, red onion, coconut cream, coriander, chipotle chili, topped with melted cheese and served with warm flour tortillas will wow in more ways than one.

Of course the trusty faves are all accounted for, with Queso fundido, Enchiladas, Quesadillas all on offer as well as a stacked Taco lineup we’d happily nom our way through hungry caterpillar style every day of the week (honourable mention to the Crispy fried tempura fish – White Fish, shredded cabbage, Jalapeño mayo, Pico de Gallo and queso fresco, tho).

And if you haven’t yet gauc enough, the delectable desserts are sure to do the trick, though choosing between the Mango Margarita Cheesecake, Traditional Tres Leches Cake or Peach Cream Chimichanga may prove to be quite the impossible feat.

Might we suggest a sneaky round of piedra papel o tijera, aka scissors-paper-rock (or is it rock paper scissors?! #controversial) to settle this conundrum once and for all.

And for the hottest tip of all, because what’s hotter than a spicy marg? Several!

Salud!

Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant
If you’re after a tried and tested, long-standing comedic cabaret, good ‘ole Dracs has been serving up frights, food and frivolity since we were all ankle-biters. Most people are sold when they hear there’s a ghost train alone, let alone the actual show (which changes every so often, so there’s always a reason to go back), banquet dinner…and shots in syringes!
Where: Hooker Boulevard, Broadbeach

Aloha Bar and Dining
This tropical hidden treasure is all fun vibes, good food and cracking good times. Blues on Broadbeach
So unlike our other listings, it may not be here 24/7 but it’s that much of a Broady icon that it would be criminal not to throw it a mention. As the name suggests, it brings us world-class blues and jazz music from locals and famous acts alike, performing across multiple venues over four unforgettable days. And it’s free, and sorry but when does that ever happen?

CHA CHA Japanese Restaurant
Gold Coasters have been CHA CHA bound for an authentic Japanese nosh-up which won’t break the bank for years, and that’s not about to change any time soon. The banquet menu is divine and every visit you’ll experience the same level of scrumptiousness. But the soy on the dim sum…it’s BYO and it’s hard to find an already affordable yet high-quality restaurant offering our 3 favourite letters. Score.
