Three days. More than 20 bands. And it’s 100% FREE!
Three days. More than 20 bands. And it’s 100% FREE!
Springtime is only days away people and no, we’re not referring to the season coz #duh, but to something guaranteed to inject our ‘hood with ample cultural street cred. SPRINGTIME is a new GC music festival featuring the best homegrown and national artists in leftfield alternative, electronic and hip hop *faints*. And, there’s more mic drop info incoming, because this three-day banger is absolutely, completely and utterly FREE *faints again*.
Transforming the Surfers Paradise beach and streets into a music lovers’ playground, multiple outdoor stages will house 20+ bands and some of the hottest names around. Headlined by Gamilaraay pop queen Thelma Plum, surf-garage rock trio Skegss and Australian electronic-hip hop duo Hermitude, SPRINGTIME is flexing its cool factor. And hard. Partnering with the Gold Coast Music Festival 2022, the festival is supported by triple j and OMG, we’re once again hosting something that the j endorses #WeCanNowDieHappy.
Besides the namedropping above, it’s time to unpack who you should be adding to your Spotify immediately to ensure optimal festival readiness. On Friday 2nd September and in addition to Hermitude’s DJ Set (we’re feeling dizzy again…), you can boogie along to Sneaky Sound System and remember when you saw a UFO and nobody believed you? Also doing what they do best is JK-47, Peach Fur and Vices to name a few, plus the triple j Unearthed winner and Gold Coast local, Beckah Amani. We’re so ready!
Saturday 3rd September’s roll call includes singer songwriter powerhouse Thelma Plum, 90s funk rock legends Skunkhour, Ninajirachi, Ivey and many more. Plus, SPRINGTIME has proudly partnered with Gold Coast Music Awards to bring you euphoric indie-pop artist Lily Papas and other local acts live from HOTA (Home of the Arts) from midday! This is the one and only part of the SPRINGTIME festival weekend that incurs a cost ($60 per ticket), and we will happily pay that to be part of the fun!
This brings us to the third and final day, Sunday 4th September, with Skegss, Alex the Astronaut, Just Jessie and other A-grade acts ensuring the festival goes out with a bang.
It’s not all about music though, with an epic beachfront pop-up skate plaza connecting the festival’s two beach stages. Skaterbois (and girls), get your autograph books at the ready coz there’ll be some icons showing off their skillz, like Tommy Fynn, Nixen Osborne, Mike Lawry and more. Giving them a run (or skate) for their money will be local skate legends from Precinct and Brissie’s Parliament skate shops. They’ll unleash on custom planter boxes, ledges, kickers, china banks, slappy curbs and more!
Art lovers, watch live mural painting and see talented local artists bring their interpretation of SPRINGTIME to life. And last, but by no means least, an interactive art installation will complete the festival’s art offering. Created by multi award-winning contemporary performance makers, Shock Therapy productions, The Cleaners is a not-to-be-missed art experience for the whole fam. Witness the havoc that ensues with a giant slingshot and paint-filled balloons. #OurSortOfArt
So, there you have it Gold Coast, yet another “we’ve arrived” event, further cementing our beautiful city as a multidimensional destination with something for everyone.
As mentioned, this is a free event (Gold Coast Music Awards excluded) so tickets are not required (#SoMuchYes). But for the full SPRINGTIME line up, go here. For the festival map and general information, click here.
