Gather your best spuds, the Sunday Roast Revival at Goldie’s is lit!
There’s nothing quite like the realisation that many of the mainstays of our youth have gone the way of the dodo to rudely remind us that we are slowly edging further and further away from those days. And while it’s #goodriddance to burning road trip CDs and the awkwardness of talking to our crush’s parents on ye olde home phone, there are some childhood icons that we think you’ll agree are overdue for a comeback.
Take the humble Sunday roast for example – one minute, it’s forming our core childhood memories of family get-togethers starring Nanna’s legendary roast, and the next, it’s dying a slow death in RSL bain-maries all around the country. Luckily for, well, all of us, this Sunday staple is officially returning to its former glory – because we’ve got the goss on the best roast on the Coast, that’ll have you sneaky undoing that top button faster than you can say ‘put a fork in me, I’m done’.
It’s every bit as delish as you remember, but dare we say, even better than Nanna’s. Now before you @ us for this #controversial take, hear us out – because if memory serves us correctly we were never invited to any bottomless cocktail action at Nan’s (tho the unlimited icy poles were pretty rad).
Roast assured, as passionate connoisseurs of well, anything and everything emerging from an oven, we would never be making such bold claims lightly. But the crew at Goldie’s at The Island has officially launched the Sunday Roast Revival, with a spread that’s a modern twist on wholesome, share-style eats with all the essentials of course. Because what roast lunch would be complete without crackle (we won’t tell your dentist if you don’t) and roast ‘taters anyway.
Sidle up to Goldie’s glam, mid-century mod x coastal digs and watch the world, or the Surfers Paradise Boulevard go by because who can resist a sneaky spot of people watching. Kick things off with some wood-fired breads with goat’s curd, aged balsamic and extra virgin olive oil, and perhaps even save a little to mop up the good stuff when you’re done – because it turns out, Dad was onto something all along.
Now your tastebuds have been sufficiently prepared, it’s on to the stars of the show – dig in to some succulent Lemon and smoky paprika rotisserie chicken with charred onion jus gras and mouthwatering free range roast porchetta with chimichurri jus, complete with crackle roasted to perfection of course. And because no roast lunch is complete without some spud-tacular sides, perfectly pan-roasted potatoes with Aleppo pepper and chives. Apparently, Goldie’s is one place that does win friends with salad because there’s no sad iceberg here folks – we’ll be digging right into the charred vegetable salad, pearl couscous, roquette, chimichurri, labneh, charred lime and Greek mixed salad with Persian fetta and olive crumb.
While a feast like that might seem pretty hard to follow, if you’re going to top it, a two-hour bottomless drinks package will certainly do the trick. Featuring seasonal cocktail and sangria carafes, premium wine and craft beer, get ready to collect your jaws from the floor when we tell you that it’s all included for $69 per person. And we did just check our calendars because all this talk of roast lunch and bottomless cocktails for an absolute steal is starting to feel a lot like Christmas.
If you thought after all that we’d be done like a dinner, Goldies is also throwing in the good vibes for free. There are resident DJs and live musos, and a host to bring the banter – with games and prizes to reignite some sibling rivalry for nostalgia’s sake, of course.
No matter if you’re gathering the fam or your best spuddies – give your nominated chef the day off and get the crew together to luxuriate over a tasty feast and some Sunday funday festivities to boot.
