It’s pretty much obligatory to eat your body weight at a buffet, but when we’re talking about Harvest Buffet at The Star Gold Coast, you’ll eat your partner’s, besties, and besties partner’s too. From the freshest seafood like oysters, prawns, sushi, crabs and mussels, to roasts from the carvery, as well as people-pleasers like pizza, pasta, curries, soups and salads, even the fussiest eater will be raving about the food. And don’t even get us started on the decadent dessert bar including THAT chocolate fountain, and how do we get one of these installed at home please?

Just when you think they can’t possibly inject more variety or yum factor into this iconic buffet, colour me happy – they do! Over the next few months, the Harvest Buffet chefs are serving up themed food a-plenty, with Christmas in July, Indonesian Month and British Month, and we are here for All.Of.It!!!

Christmas in July
Actual Christmas is fast approaching and we are all kinds of shooketh coz, just, how??!!…but before we get to that, Harvest Buffet is celebrating Christmas in July now! Not one to ever miss an opportunity to get their festive on, they’re going all out with all the things, including a selection of festive favourites like roast turkey, honey glazed ham, braised parsnips, mince pies, gingerbread and pavlova. It’d be rude(olph) not to check it out!

Indonesian month
August is another month not to be missed at Harvest Buffet because they’re cooking up an Indonesian feast of epic proportions and seriously, we could eat nasi kuning for lunch and dinner on repeat. And whaddya know, here we can do precisely that (cue happy dance), along with indulging in other traditional Indonesian dishes like Lombok-style grilled chicken wings, Indonesian chicken noodle soup and rice pudding to name a few. And ok, we’re now drooling.

British month
So we’re globe-hopping from Asia to the UK now coz blimey, it’s British Month this September! And not just that, but it’s time to celebrate the diamond jubilee and anything with the word ‘diamond’ in it has our undivided attention. Feast on some fanciful British delights including sausage and mash, fish and chips, trifle, eton mess and much more. Count us in love!

Kids eat free on Sunday nights!
Parents of the GC rejoice because this isn’t happening in any particular month – it’s e.v.e.r.y m.o.n.t.h! Round up the fam for an end of the week buffet feed, because who can be bothered cooking on a Sunday night and certainly not us. The kids will be delighted with the range of kid-friendly treats like chicken nuggets and sushi, and you will be too coz you’re not paying for them! Valid with a paying adult, you may not leave feeling lighter…but neither will your wallet!

12 of the best Gold Coast buffets

Harvest Buffet, The Star Gold Coast (image supplied)
Harvest Buffet, The Star Gold Coast (image supplied)

The history of buffet style eating is a mixed affair. Its origins could be said to hark back to a mixture of cultures — from Asia to Europe. The ‘smorgasbord’ became internationally known as such at the 1939 New York World’s Fair exhibition, because the Swedes had to invent a new way of showcasing the best of Swedish food to large numbers of visitors. And the rest, as they say, is history…

Whoever can claim to have been responsible, we’re not fussed! The point is buffets — and smorgasbords — are amazing ways to reach newfound eating goals, and we’ve got quite a few exceptional ones right here on the Gold Coast. Happy binge eating, folks!

Skypoint Breakfast Buffet
Not a morning person? Well breakfast up in the clouds might be the closest you’ll get to staying snug in that cosy bed of yours and to be honest, I’d say this brekky is worth the wake up. Cucina Vivo New Menu 2022 (image supplied)
Cucina Vivo New Menu 2022 (image supplied)

When we think of Italy and its countrymen and women, our minds immediately go to art, far-shion, vespas, passionate hand gestures, sprawling Tuscan vineyards (cue flashback to ‘Stealing Beauty’ and suddenly we’re angsty 16-year-olds again), fast cars and of course, FOOD. More specifically, their love for simple, traditional dishes made with the finest seasonal ingredients. Well, that’s exactly what we can look forward to at The Star Gold Coast’s Cucina Vivo, inviting us to re-ignite our love for this exquisite cuisine with the Delizioso Nuovo Menu. Packed with simple Italian flavours executed to absolute drool-worthy perfection and an extensive selection of Italian and Australian vinos, we’re sold faster than a new listing in Burleigh!

Cucina Vivo New Menu 2022 (image supplied)

Delizioso Nuovo Menu
Let’s get straight down to business and divulge the deets of their new signature dishes which may we add, now have recommended wine pairings from the in-house Sommelier. The only thing better than a glass of vino is a glass of vino recommended by someone boasting Status Level: Expert ranking, and we’ll take 2 bottles thanks. Coz we’re suckers for a carb fest, we’re going straight for the irresistibly rich and tasty Gnocchi with gorgonzola cream, roasted walnuts, fig and parmesan crisp. Or hang on, we just spotted Fabio’s (seasonal) Pizza and if Fabio – the best Pizzaiolo Chef outside of Italy – has put his name to it, then we need it in our lives. Immediately.

This season he’s crafted a Prosciutto Pizza, with cherry tomato, basil, San Daniele prosciutto and rocket, paired with a glass of glass of Poliziano Chianti from Tuscany….and we’re back in the vineyards with Liv Tyler ‘Stealing Beauty’ style again. Or, for those more partial to a slab of top-notch protein, you can’t go past the Scotch Fillet 100 Day Grain Fed Darling Downs 300g served with house made caponata, insalata and grilled lemon and paired with a Rivera Primitivo from Salento. All we can say is it will be a huge missed-steak if you don’t get this.

Cucina Vivo Dessert Trolley (image supplied)
Cucina Vivo Dessert Trolley (image supplied)

Or perhaps, you’re in a small plate state of mind and that’s perfectly fine because you can order three small plates for $50 and how’s that for value! We suggest the Buffalo Mozzarella with Vanella buffalo mozzarella, garlic crumb, aged balsamic, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil, the Spicy Meatballs with Wagyu meatballs, pomodoro, mozzarella and garlic bread, and who can knock back the House Made Arancini with mushroom, dill and aioli. This leads us to our final destination, dessert and if you’re thinking there’s no room at the inn, think again because there is a Dessert Trolley and good luck saying no when a selection of authentic Italian sweet sensations literally roll up to your table.

Set Menu for Two
But that’s not all (and yes, we sound like a Danoz Direct spruiker) because Cucina Vivo is also launching the all-new monthly ‘Set Menu for Two’ and friends, it’s one helluva offer. For the incredible price of $45 for two people (members price) or $65 for two non-members price, you’ll be treated to a scrumptious three-course feast. If you do the math, that’s $22.50 per person (for members) and how are they doing this you ask, and we have no idea. All we know is that it’s only available for the month of May on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and you’d be nutty as a nougat to miss it. May’s set menu includes Rigatoni with house made beef & pork Italian ragù and San Marzano tomato (Nonna’s Italian meat gravy), a Ortalana woodfired oven pizza with Eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, olives, tomato base and fior di latte, and a Raddicchio Salad with shaved fennel and lemon dressing. Oh and just say ‘treat yo self’ to their Tiramisu dessert for an additional $8.

These brand-spanking new delish signature menu items and the epic monthly special are precisely why Cucina Vivo will always have a pizza (or a Pisa!) of our hearts.
